ParticipantTor: The gear, the boat and I are all in the same place and I can now start modifying my ground tackle system. I am planning to follow your approach, which is to divide the existing locker vertically for 2 rodes ( 300 ft of 3/8 and 250 ft of 12 strand with 50 ft of chain). I will then seal off the anchor locker door on deck.
You mentioned a slight bow trim problem. Is this something that has to be compensated for? Are there any “I wish I had done that” suggestions you could make?

ParticipantSounds like a few good ways to use the forward tank space. Has anyone actually cut an access to the tank? Have you noticed any strange spider marks on the hull after? Looking for experience here. As they say, “measure twice, cut once”.

ParticipantThis may be another alternative to pulling the engine to R & R the existing tank after the dreaded pinholes appear. Then just cut up and pull the old fuel tank.

ParticipantAloha Eric: did you keep the one in the cockpit along with the new portable one? More back up/capacity is always better.

ParticipantAloha Tor: that cover picture was taken 32 years ago. They’re all gray hairs now I’m sure. The boat looks just as good now though.

ParticipantIt’s hard to tell from the grainy blow up of Lady Leanne’s cover photo, but it looks like a line from the mizzen staysail is cleated to the stern cockpit coaming. A forward line looks like it’s run through a deck pad eye located next to the mainmast and is possibly adjusted with a fiddle block that has a cleat and a snap shackle. Your thoughts, now that you’re experienced.

ParticipantTor: I forwarded the Cruising World cover shot to your e-mail address as I don’t know how to get it on the site. No racy centerfold of the old girl though.

ParticipantYou’ve given me motivation! The Jolly Lama came with a mizzen staysail (which is depicted in the Cruising World cover shot of her under the former name Lady Leanne..this shot is in rotation on the Pearson site). Now I’ll dig it out and give it a fly!

ParticipantThanks for clarifying the bleeding process. Once I noticed the air bubbles going up the hose from the manifold to the reservoir tank, I opened the petcock and let air out. The bubbles would then stop for a while. I didn’t realize that it took so long to get all the air out. Can I assume that when the tube is fully filled to the reservoir with no bubbles that the system is fully bled?
By the way, be careful what coolant system flush you use. Some are not friendly to aluminum, as I found out (pin holes in manifold inlet/outlet ports).

ParticipantYou’re right Bob. The IR says 180 at the thermostat housing, so the new T-gauge I installed is off by 10 degrees. Go figure!

ParticipantAloha Steve: Your response to my question about the bilge location of the windlass did not contain any script.

ParticipantBased on the photos and picture caption, it appears the windlass is mounted amidships in the bilge. How does this work?
