ParticipantLooks excellent, I didn't get many layers on in the inside, maybe 5, I managed about 8 on the outside. Hindsight, easier to lay up the inside (gravity) although we were living aboard on the hard and a cold cold winter in North Florida. If I ever go in there again I'm going to lay 2 or 3 more biaxial layers vertically up the sides of the keel about 18″ or more along with a few more on the bottom. My fear is, if aground on a reef with the seas pounding the boat on it's side those sides of the keel will be exposed to coral heads. I examined a Hans Christian that went hard aground in St Croix similar to that I described and the boat got dragged fully over the reef and recovered, there was heavy gouging and scraping up to 10″ 15″ on it's side. Bulkheads might not be a bad idea.KenTaking what comes as I get it, using it all as much as I can and trying hard to leave all the shit behind.

ParticipantEvery one of mine, large and small bronze perko, simply came out with a slight turn with a nipple wrench (fits inside thru-hull and grabs the two tangs there) and a monkey wrench on the inside. One of them unscrewed by simply turning the nipple wrench. One of the large ones only had 2 3/4 full threads holding it. The whole episode was very frightening for me because of how easy they came out. You can cut or grind a piece of metal to fit inside a thru-hull as a nipple wrench then have someone inside with a monkey wrench or jam it somewhere as I did and do it alone.

ParticipantHey Tor,Cool beans, I guess your headed down island after all. Hopefully you'll have more wind than I did when I made that trip last year at this time.I just made plans to have a friend fly down first week of April, we're headed straight down to Grenada be-bopping along the way with a plan of 1 to 2 weeks travel and a week or 2 playing on Grenada. My thoughts are the earlier I get to Grenada the better chance of finding a decent form of income.Good luck getting crew, and I damn sure hope to meet you this summer.KenTaking what comes as I get it, using it all as much as I can and trying hard to leave all the shit behind.

ParticipantRich,I'm not really clear on the sloop, cutter and tall ketch actual measurements but the books and all paperwork aboard this sloop, cutter, I'm not really sure, were WRONG. The book says, 48' 9″ above DWL (designed water line) and the PO made a sketch that showed the mast length from top of grease cap (in mast furling) to the mast step at 50'. After crashing into a bridge I found my masthead (no lights grease cap or antenna included) to be 51' to the water. My safe passage is 53' 6″.Ken.Taking what comes as I get it, using it all as much as I can and trying hard to leave all the shit behind.

ParticipantTor, on my passage from George Town Bahama's to the VI sailing every moment as high as we could and after all the diesel was gone and most of the wind and we were forced to sail, fighting day and night just to make 100 miles, I felt the boat moved better at 50 degrees than 45. My young nephew who's patience was very thin, fought and fussed at 45 but the log showed no difference in the long run watch to watch. I relaxed he stressed. I have the tall sloop rig and we thought the boat did better with the 135 reefed a little, maybe 120 to 125 and a full main. Winds were anywhere from 6 to 12 knots for four days. We fought hard for miles every waking moment.KenTaking what comes as I get it, using it all as much as I can and trying hard to leave all the shit behind.

ParticipantWhat I noticed at the site is these test emails show up on the right as recent topics but do not show up on the main text of general discussions. The subjects Tor commented on are there and his comments.KenTaking what comes as I get it, using it all as much as I can and trying hard to leave all the shit behind.
