I self installed a 24v 300S on our boat in 2013. The same forward battery is used to power the Windlass.

I did all the install work except for a fiberglass pad that needed to be built on the hull where the unit lives.

This unit works great when the wind is less than 15 knots. Above 15 knots I've sometimes wanted more ummph.

I'm not sure one of their duplex units could be fitted on the 424 but it would be worth investigating. Also not sure if it would be cost effective. I'm not sure how much more $$ I would have put into a thruster to get the extra uumph I only rarely need.

I (and the Admiral) will never go back to docking or maneuvering in tight marina quarters (fueling) without a thruster of some type.

I installed 6 NFM ports 12 years ago.
Last month I installed 2 more (large ones in the Head and aft cabin)
Suggest you look at using Bed-It Butyl tape instead of the black gooey butyl tape from NFM.
    http://www.pbase.com/mainecruising/butyl_tape
This vendor also has a how to install NFM ports that I found useful/helpful.
Suggest your get the NFM template and counter bore tool.
A small trim router with a bearing guide made quick work of getting the openings cut out properly.

The PO of our boat added a hidden toggle switch to this valve and called it his anti-theft deterrent device. When he left the boat he would switch off the solenoid. Thief would not get very far with the boat under power.

We replaced the forward most 6 ports using NFM ports 10 years ago. Great product. I recently bought larger ports to go in the head and aft cabin but haven't had time to do them.

My cabin sides at the ports were solid. No core.

I have been operating our V-Drive without water cooling for 8+ years, including all day motoring runs in summer heat. There is another 424 in our marina, in the southern Chesapeake, that has also operated without water cooling for a similar period of time. No discernible issues.

I installed a Tides Marine Sure Seal in Eclipse 3 years ago. No problems so
    far.
    https://www.tidesmarine.com/
Evan Starzinger has it on his list of top equipment on the boat…

Had a PSS on a previous boat… no problem with that either.

It is time to do something to the stuffing box. The yard suggested that I
replace with a dripless shaft seal. No more worry about the age of the
shaft log and no water in the bilge. Has anyone had any experience with
these. I feel like in an old post someone said they had one installed.

Eclipse and Mobjack Pearl are 424s at Mobjack Bay Marina. A small friendly
marina. I’m not certain if there are any slips open to serve another large
boat. This marina is well protected and approx 12 miles up the Mobjack and
North Rivers from the Chesapeake Bay. The rates are very reasonable
<$1700/yr. We've been at this marina 15 years (3 boats). The phone number
    at the Marina is 804 725 7245

Other marinas in the Mobjack are Compass Marina (up the East River
http://www.compass*marina*.com/ and Severn River Marina (up the Severn River
    http://www.severnriver*marina*.com)

Around the corner in the York river you’ll find http://www.crownpointe*marina*.com
. The 424 Serendipity lives there. Also in the York is the York River Yacht
    haven( http://www.yryh.net)

I live west of Richmond approx 6 miles off I64 in Montpelier. Our travel
time to the Mobjack is usually an 1 hr 45 min. Depending on where you live
in CVille I’d expect you’d have another 45 min to 1 hr drive to most
anywhere around Deltaville or points further south like the Mobjack Bay or
    York River.

I would be happy to answer any questions you might have about these
    marinas.

where I keep my 424, CHARISMA. Deltaville is 45 minutes from I-64 – one
hour from Richmond and two & a half hours from Charlottesville.
The marina is well maintained & managed, beautifully landscaped and dog
friendly. The weather protection is excellent. We enjoy a nice clubhouse
    and
pool, and there is an active little yacht club which shares reciprocity
with other clubs. My slip is $2700/year. There exist no boatyard in the
    marina
proper, but a well run yard, STINGRAY PT. BOAT WORKS is adjacent to the
property. Dry storage is $100 / month.
I would be more than happy to try to answer any questions you may have
regarding our marina or Deltaville in general. (540) 400-2434, or

There is another 424 at our marina, and we’d enjoy the company of a
    third!

    Hi All,

Just sharing my new (almost complete) cockpit table. The old table was
kind of rotten and I only two weeks to get the new together before we
cruised the Hauraki Gulf in New Zealand.

It has the usual flaps for creating more area for food and drinks,
however, the difference is that the centre section also holds the GPS and
    Radar unit.

The original idea was to have a folding top but this did not work out.
Having used it for two weeks I found that for longer passages it was best
with the panel that holds the instruments withdrawn from the table and
locked into place. The table top slides into place and pins the base of the
    instrument panel.

On short trips between anchorages, the instruments are still clearly
visible when inside the table i.e. the panel in its ‘home’ position.

When all is done, the panel slips down and the top slides into place, with
the pins securing the panel, and is lockable. The table also houses
    speakers and a power point.

    Cheers

I’ve changed a spam filter setting to help us reject emails that have

the filter won’t horribly mangle your email.

I disconnected my V drive from water. I filled the water jacket with Oil…
thinking that might help conduct any heat to the outside of the drive and
away from the drive.. might not really help but couldn’t hurt…
