Try Trans Atlantic Diesel in Virginia. When I dropped off my old W60 he had
a ton of old engines in the yard.

Someone had done research I believe last year and had assembled a spread sheet with several different lofts as options. I have it saved on my home computer and will send it when I can get away from work.

While you’re still near the boat can you get some pics of the control lines from you wind vane. I would love to see how it hooks up to the wheel or quadrant.
Thanks and have a great summer of mountain cruising.

Before I replaced mine it was scratched badly. I would dribble a little water on the face and it became transparent again. Just if it gets scratched again in the future

Well, I couldn’t free up the brass ring holding the glass in the peep hole. I did, however, manage to polish up the glass enough to improve the clarity. I’ve decided to stay low tech and keep the old gauge (if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it). My problem was visual as it was very hard to read the gauge with crazed glass. I will install a light above the tank (underneath the cockpit floor) to illuminate the gauge and wire it into the steaming lights. This will solve the problem for me.

My inner ring crumbled when removed. I just cut a circle of lexan and screwed and caulked it in place. It has been there for ten years and shows no sign of wear

Dan, I found a nice brass fixed port at a marine flea market and replaced the entire assembly. As I recall, the original was aluminum and the inner ring was badly corroded. Perhaps another member was successful in changing the lens. Mine looked like it would be more trouble than it was worth. While you have it out, epoxy around the hole to preserve the balsa core.

Here is a link for the plating source that Pete was talking about. It is
located in Bridgeton just outside New Bern.

I was able to clean and repolish my cleats with a high speed polishing
wheel on job grinder – you will need a good polish.

When finished they looked like new.

Most would have been happy with just the primer…

Since I took all hardware off the decks to paint them, I am now assessing
the old hardware and most is looking pretty shabby next to the
new-boat-looking deck. My massive 10+” cleats really need to be replated
or replaced. I got some of the Marine Parts Depot 10″ cleats and they are
Micky Mouse at best compared to the old ones. I knew the minute the
package arrived and the four new cleats weighed about as much as one of my
old ones. I am sending them back. (When will I learn that those guys don’t
    make serious deck hardware…).

Has anyone a great source for replating such things? I want to stay away
from the motorcycle chrome shops as I have found them to be very expensive.
I once had some plating done by a commercial shop between New Bern and
Washington NC but I can’t seem to find their info anywhere in my notes.

    Thanks!

    Pete

I thought alignment should be done in the water. Like Rich said your method sounds like it must be done without a cutless bearing in place. I guess I don’t understand the process.

I’m not sure what you’re describing here. Aligning the V-Drive is not so
much centering it in the stern-tube. It’s a matter of getting its axis
aligned with the drive shaft so it doesn’t vibrate.
