I have a simple 17 inch standard prop. if I had 1200 to spend I would get a sailer prop from some place in Washington.

check the deck and cockpit integrity, the cooling systems raw and fresh water, the windows especially if aluminum and crazed plexiglass. check mast step for leaks. a good surveyor tests the deck with a tuning fork. screws and bolts leak water and destroy deck or cockpit. I hope you have a lot of members with skills Guy Thalassa

I replaced all those lights with leds and the energy was cut by 1/12 12 fixtures consume 25 watts making it unnecessary to limit people reading at night at anchor.

I prefer reaching,  as rarely can I fetch 45 to 50 degrees. I prefer reaching with jib and mizzen, all easily managed from cockpit while anchoring or docking. I once came into my dock under sail back winding the mizzen and effectively stopping the boat. My engine was not working after falling and pt Judith yard missed that diesel oil supply was disconnected. > have a bow thruster which makes docking and getting into tight places.

Thalassa, 1981, $24is a reaching boat which under heavy weather moves at hull speed without much heeling. In light winds steerage is extremely difficult, challenging even to people who grew up on sailboats, 55 to 60 degrees of wind.

With a moderate wind 45 degrees would be excellent, only closer in heavier wind luffing up. If you wanted to go to windward you should not be on a 424.
