These new designs are actually cheaper than the cqr, now imported and sold
by Lewmar (no longer simpson lawrence).
A 45 pound Manson Supreme goes for $434 at Defender, while a Lewmar 45 pound
    CQR goes for a whopping$773 !!

My plan would be to try out the new style and keep the CQR as a secondary
along with my Danforth, for a total of 3 anchors aboard.

Next question, how much chain should one use on a chain/rope rode. Now I am
using 20 feet of 3/8 chain, and I thought I might increase up to 35 feet of
chain so that when I am pulling up anchor in a depth up to the high 20’s
I’ll be able to put the chain around the gypsy without having to hold the
weight of the anchor while switching from capstan to gypsy–guess I’m
    getting old!!

A solution some use is to install a very small, say Rule 500, pump in the
bottom of the deep bilge. Use a 1/2″ hose and not much will come back down
    a small diameter hose line.

    Hi Bob–

I don’t know about changes in diameter; however, my prop shaft is 1 1/2″ and takes 1/4 ” packing. The rudder shaft is larger diameter, so it takes larger packing, and I used 5/16 with no problem(ie no leaks!).

hey, any news on golf cart batteries? I’m going cruising in a couple of weeks and need to replace two 6 volt batts.

    Thanks!
btw, how did you make out with the bad weather the day you left?

same as the shaft, but need one size up in packing size– use 5/16 in.
    rings–3 rings.

    Alan:

Glad you and Becky are attending! I would suggest a cooler with food and
you should be good to go! You might want to bring some photos of your boat
and any projects you have done and care to discuss. I also suggest some
rain gear just in case we get a quick shower!

Drive right to MAidstone Harbor MArina and call the raft for pick up.

Yes, you will end up at Maidstone Marina/ Follow the directions that have
been posted. Park in the lot and call someone on the raft and we’ll ferry
    you out.

As for eats, everyone will be bringing food for the grill. We will be set
up behind the pool at Maidstone Harbor. Friday Night will be pot luck
    aboard the boats.

    Glad you are coming!

    Adam:

Some have left their boat at anchor in the harbor with no problem. You
could check with the Harbormaster about this– I seem to recall that the
HArbormaster kept an eye on the anchored boat for the skipper. Of course if
hurricane was coming I’d get down quickly !!

    Rich:

Can’t help you with info on parking, as I have never left a car there.
Also, I highly doubt there is bus service from EH to Orient Point. The
ride back with another Rendezvous attendee might be the best bet.

    Alan:

If you are coming from North or Northeast of New London, take these
directions. If coming from W or NW of Bridgeport, try the Bridgeport Ferry.
Trouble with Bridgeport is Port Jeff destination is not as close to E
    Hampton.

Coming down from New England the best way is the New London Ferry to
Orient Point. Then drive west on the north fork of long island
to Riverhead. Head South, then East on Route 27 all the out the
south fork to East Hampton. Note that while the marina is in East Hampton,
we are several miles north of route 27 which goes through the main drag of
East Hampton. Go through the village of EH and keep left at
the end of the village. When you pass the movie theater on the right get
ready to bear left just before the windmill and turn onto North Main Street.
Cross under the RR Bridge. Continue until the road splits and stay to the
left–where there is a sign indicating Three Mile Harbor Road. Take this
road up several miles to the head of the harbor. Then start looking for
signs for East Ha,pton Point. Our marina, Maidstone HArbor, is immediatelyl
north of EHP. There is an in driveway for EHP then an out driveway and then
the entrance to Maidstone Harbor Marina. The restaurant for our marina is
called Harbor Bistro and is visible from the road. Pull into the parking
lot and you’re there. All you need to do then is call for a pick up from
    the raft group.

Again, address of Maidstone Marina is 313 Three Mile Harbor Rd., East
    Hampton, NY
