I have tried to send them and my isp says that they are to large. The smallest is 7.75 mb. Is there an easy way to post them to the web page?

    Hey Guys

I just got back from scanning the docking plan, electrical, layout and sail plans for the ketch rig. I expect an email with all in PDF files in 10 minutes or so. I will email them out when they come in.

My copies are of a ketch layout and I have talked to a friend that said they may scan them for a few beers and wings. Give me till tomorrow and I’ll see if it is true. My copies are folded so I don’t know how well they will copy. Didn’t John have scanned copies on his web page? I thought I had seen the blue prints on someone’s web page.

With these big alternators are the engines ever without a load?

I think that the older boats didn’t have it. I have all the original paper
work and that’s not in there. Thanks for scanning those documents I can’t
wait to get a chance to print it out and check for differences.

I was told by the PO that he used the seat in the shower to wash clothes. He plugged it up, filled it with water and one of those tide power balls while sailing. I don’t think I could get much in there so I have yet to give it a try.

I think that was me. Gary called me and I told him that I left most of the engine with TAD, I think that he has checked with them.

    Hey Jack,

We’re tied up at Deaton’s in Oriental at the moment. We’re in need of a new fly wheel and I heard about a local 424 owner repowering recently. From what I’ve been told the owner kept the old Westerbeke and I was wondering if you knew who he might be.

I’d like to get in touch with him and see if he’s gotten rid of the Westerbeke as of yet.

    Good luck with the surgery.

I’m in Oriental, NC just up the intracoastal from Beaufort, NC. Can make room at my dock if you need a slip for a few days on the way up. If you use google earth you can make out my dock in Whittaker Creek. It’s the third or fourth one on the left past the big marina with the two sailboats pointed east. I’m within biking distance of everything in town. Not a lot in town but it’s a nice place to be.

I might sail north in the spring for a little shakedown cruise if I’m feeling caught up enough on the projects

Good habiits are not one of my strong points, but after the boss saw the inside of the tanks I think she will give some xtra help in remembering your ideas. Let me know when you are headed north. It would be great to meet you in person.

    Linus,

After this initial purge the tanks should stay fairly clean while you’re using & refilling the water regularly. An occasional bleach shock treatment inside the tanks – I use a bleach/water mix in a small spray bottle to reach up to the higher sections – followed by a very thorough rinse before refilling, is a good habit to develop. Most of all, if/when you store the boat or just leave her for long periods, empty and towel-dry the tanks. Ideally, leave the inspection ports open during storage, too. It was surely long-term sitting water that fouled your tanks and mine.

Thanks for the advise. I have decided that I’ll have to cut more holes in the tank. Without cleaning I don’t think I could ever even bathe in water that came from in there. When I drained the tanks I used the biggest hose I had and put it in the inspection port. Once the siphon was started I used it like a vaccum hose and cleaned some of the trash out of the bottom. Now I have to get to the other side of the baffle and do some serious scrubbing.

    Linus,

My boat came with 3 inspection ports evenly spaced fore & aft across the
tops of each tank, and a lot of crud inside the tanks. Only one of the three
ports had an easy-access hole cut through the plywood cover. I cut access
holes above each of the other ports, angling the jig-saw blade inward so I
could then set the cutouts back in the holes. I was able to scrub out the
tanks with various scrubbers and brushes, including one with a foot-long
handle, plus plenty of detergent, Comet, some bleach and several rinses in
between and afterwards. Draining each rinse was simplified by cutting the
tank-to-manifold hoses above the bilge sump and installing T’s and a drain
hose aimed downward (which I otherwise keep plugged). I was able to get
replacement O-rings for the inspection ports from their manufacturer,
    Beckson Marine.

I recently replaced most of the hoses on my boat – sanitation, seawater and
freshwater – including the water tank-to-manifold hoses, which were gross
after 30 years of use and neglect. I did have to remove the plywood cover to
get at each salon tank’s exit hose fitting, but that’s a one-time fix.
However, I’m going to follow the example of others in this group and cut
access hatches into those aft bulkheads so I can use the dead space aft of
the tanks. (I’ve just done that in the shower stall and, even though I knew
there was a big space back there, I’m amazed and delighted at just how big
it actually is. I’m thinking of using it as my garage.)

    🙂

I found the leak that caused the darkening was the starboard water tank. I have seen a few people talking about replacing the tubing to the tanks and I had thought that was a good idea. The tanks and the tubing in my boat are cruddy. I think that Bob suggested adding another inspection plate in each tank to get the crud out from the other side of the baffle, a must in my case. There is no easy access to the end of the tank that the tubing comes out of. I guess all of you that have replaced the water lines must have cut out the area aft of the tanks, or did you remove the board on top of the tanks? Simply messing about on boats needs to be a full time job sometimes. I guess it’s an opportunity to gain access to the space aft of the tanks. Break out the saw!!

I paid $895 for the 2 4d’s and 1 group 31. I don’t have the break down for each battery. Looking at the price at WM just one 31 and one 4d would be that much.

Here is the spec sheet that I remember using. http://www.eastpenn-deka.com/assets/base/0245.pdf See if they don’t match up with the WM book. Also if you have an old WM book I thing it had information about Deka green manufacturing on the same page.

I looked on the batteries plus web site also and didn’t see any of these batteries listed. The local guy said that the batteries were made by eastpenn and were the exact same battery as west marine with the battery plus sticker on the side. They are definitely eastpenn batteries I will have to see if they last as well as expected. He also sells these batteries to the yards in the area and I asked if they had any problems and the reports were good. Here’s the web page. It has changed so I didn’t find the same sheet that had all the specs but I’m sure it’s in there somewhere. http://www.eastpenn-deka.com/assets/base/0181.pdf
They look just like the Sea Mate with a different sticker.
