check out a Campbell sail prop-they are designed specifically for sailboats and I’ve purchased 2 of them and the last one was for my Pearson 424.I replaced a worn out maxy prop. The campbell prop is fast, powerful in forward and reverse and is a smaller prop, so less drag, also a brass machined prop and priced 500-800 approx.

Time in a Bottle-is my boat-Joe Shimkonis- live and keep it in Coquina Harbor,SC- I am on the mailing list and read the emails daily-
boat is well maintained with many upgrades. Mikie likes it was sold and moved to Long Island.
Calico Jack is located in Oriental-Jack is part owner of Deaton’s Yacht Brokerage in Oriental. He’s done alot of work on his Pearson424 and well maintained.
Sunocean is also in Oriental on Whittaker creek. Not in a marina but behind a house.
Call Jack at Deaton’s brokerage and you may be able to see his boat.
Pete Dubler moved his boat from Oriental to Colorado for a major refit.
Oriental is a great little sailing area and there are several Marinas there – population 800-sailboats 3000

Rodd-I had a Jabsco 3 gpm but it became very loud when pumping.I went back to the Shurflo pumps because they claim to be quiet.I started with a 2 gpm and asked West Marine if I could return if if it didn’t provide adequate flow-it didn’t and I returned it for the 3 gpm.3 gpm provides plenty of flow-perhaps 4-5 gpm is overkill.
I also installed new valves and hoses under the floor [mover from the sink cabinet wall mount] because I had a tendencyto overfill the tanks and flood the cabinet floor.I now how a white, uncluttered sink cabinet.

My best investment ever for the wife was a compost head toilet.Installed it 3 months ago-removed all hoses to and from.Eliminated all the nasty odors.
The unit separates liquid and solid waste.I had an extra water pump and with a small hose attached into the liquid waste container, and semi-permanent installation with a switch, and installed under the sink, pump it overboard whenever it starts to fill up.The biggest disadvantage of the unit is how quickly a beer drinker can fill up the liquid unit.Especially if you have beer drinking friends on board. The pump solves the problem.Otherwise it is easy to get splashed when dumping the unit, even in a toilet and living aboard it fills up every few days.I have not had to empty the solids compost portion yet,and it has been used, especially when offshore and at the dock for night time emergencies.Wife loves it-especially when we were in Stuart,Fl and the very end of the Loggerhead marina-like a 10 minute walk to the marina restrooms.
    No more holding tank!
Peeing takes no effort! Flows directly into the liquid bottle- just spray some water after complete to eliminate a build up.No pumping,no electric flushing. No pumping/flushing noise at night when someone uses the head that typically wakes up everyone on the boat.

I have new sails-UK – and I get no better than that. The new sails made a significant speed difference.

Pete-I installed the 5 by 12’s -they are awesome.I think Alan gave me the phone number of the guy that works the boat shows.I called him when he was at the Annapolis boat show 2010 and got the  best pricing.
Boat show pricing is the best and you can’t compare last years’ to this years’ due to inflation. The 5 by 12’s made a huge difference in the amount of light entering the cabin, well constructed, and one of the top 10 improvements I’ve made, great quality!! The larger ones were just too expensive for me to justify so I put those off for a leaky day! I called them and they gave me boat show pricing for the 3 by 17’s months later but still too high.

Tonto-HI-I just had my bottom painted.I asked the yard if there was anything I could coat the prop and shaft with to prevent barnacle buildup because both were covered on haulout. He suggested prop speed and said they’d had good results with it and took me out to a yacht with 2 huge props that had been in the Bahamas a year since they put it on and it looked like new!I then had it applied.Afterwards I noticed quarts of it for sale at West Marine-not cheap but really effective. The name Prop speed may not be correct but something close to it.I think there is only one brand out there.
I’m excited with it since I am headed to Florida in Dec from Myrtle Beach.Anyone else going my way?

Did you have your water pressure on? I had a pin hole leak in one of the tubings to the shower and behind the shower.I only discovered it when it got bad enough to make a hissing noise.Figure out if the leak is city water or salt water.I agree with “Tonto” that with a prop shaft penetrating the hull,a rudder post, thru hulls, itis probably a leakyfitting as opposed to a leak in the hull or keel. All my leaks adding water to the bilge have been either rain water, water pressure system,or tubing connections bringing salt water into the boat for the head,AC,or Refrig cooling,or over filling the water tanks.
