ModeratorJust to be sure, you’re talking about Wheatfield Cove, and not the anchorage
south of Gardener’s and Beach? Or are you talking farther north than
Wheatfield? Actually, if we make it into coordinates, there won’t be any
question. There’s a channel on the west side of the harbors that runs up to
these coves. From there, it’s just avoiding the thin stuff.Bob

ModeratorHi Thatcher,
The v-drive has its own internal heat exchanger – water comes from the
thru-hull, then through the v-drive at the top, then to the pump and on to
everything else. At the top of the v-drive is a plate with 6 bolts. Under
that is where the water flows. Some of those chambers have rusted through or have become clogged with
scale. I know I’m not looking forward to opening mine…Bob

the drive never gets hot. I believe them. Walters doesn’t recommend it,
naturally. There is no way to fix it as it’s integral to the case. Others
have cleaned and epoxied it as a stop-gap measure.Bob

ModeratorI plan on arriving around Friday the 8th, maybe as late as Saturday the
9th. I don’t know anything about the area, but I believe if we all bring
something to share we can have an awesome cookout on board. Like last
time, we can raft (with more anchors this time), and the cove appears pretty
well protected.I don’t know about anything else but I have a cruising guide that might be
helpful. I know you can dinghy ashore and get fresh seafood. I don’t need
to go to a restaurant. So, load up on eats and let’s have a party!

ModeratorI HATE AUTOCORRECT! We’re to have a cookout, not a lookout. Proposed
coordinates are:041 24.5650 N by 071 30.0001 W or thereabouts.
Rich, if no one else chimes in, and it’s only you and I, I’ll also give it a
pass. We were looking at about 8 boats last time the discussion happened.Bob

for a big lookout. Then leave on Sun or Mon as desired.Bob

weeks. Evidently it has to be made and is not off the shelf.Higher priced props can be purchased from US companies, but I’ve been told
the quality difference is negligible. This is the first prop I’ve ever

ModeratorHi Pat,
Starboard is NOT a backing material – it flexes and compresses. Use
aluminum, stainless steel, or 1/2″ plywood with epoxy encapsulation. The
transom is strong enough for what you want to do. Make your backing plates
approximately twice the size of the fittings, and you should be good to go.Bob

about
the strength of the stern to bare such loads with just the two mounting
points. The area of the mounting brackets is approximately 36 Sq. Inches
each and I canwill make the backing plates out of 1/4″ starboard even
larger than that.Question: Is it also neccessary to reinforce an even larger area of the
stern say by laying up 2 pieces of 1/4″ marine grade plywood with epoxy. I
say 2 pieces instead of one 1/2″ piece becasue there is some curve back
there and I think it would be easier that way.If I did that, I thought about initially laying in some copper mesh first
and then the plywood to add to the ground plane for my SSB Antenna.I’m curious what you all think about the stern as well.
Thanks,
