I am in the middle of painting my deck and coach top. In the process I had to remove the blue Pearson Yachts insignia. Before I did that, I took several pictures of the logo and a ruler to get the correct size. I e-mailed the pictures to my local sign shop and had them make two transfers. I picked these up yesterday and they look very good. The color is spot on and the logo looks much better than the logos I removed during the sanding process.
If anyone is interested in a pair of these let me know and I'll have some more made. These cost $5 for each logo and that is what I'll send them to you. I'll eat the postage.Lee

It appears some can meet Thursday 2 PM, some Thursday 6 PM (including me), and some on other days or nights. I hope you'll all stop by the Valiant 42 out on the docks to say hello at some point (but preferably not on Saturday). I'll be there all day everyday (except for brief lunch breaks). I may not be able to chat for long – hardly at all during the Saturday insanity – but would be glad to meet all of you in person. You know none of us is going to look at all like we imagined.

Hello all,
It appears from the two threads in late August that at least 7 or 8

we would love to meet with as many of you as possible if only to put
faces to the names we've known over the years.
John and Alan suggested meeting at 2 pm at the roof top bar above
Pussers on Thursday. If most everyone can make that time great,
otherwise any other suggestions?

ParticipantChuck,
Doug and I both have the Kato davits.
Sexy and strong – their holding up our large Apex w/ 15hp outboard.
Company is in Annapolis and has been around for a long time. They keep a history of the install. When I called about additional rail supports they had everything on file about the install by the previous owner.

Does your hose get hot when the engine is running at operating temp.?

Quote:Like most folks, I've been using cetol for the past 20 years or so. I hate the stuff. It builds up a layer of varnish over the wood and eventually darkens and starts pealing. Its great for below-deck finish. I've been able to closely match the Pearson woodwork finish by first applying a coat of cetol followed by epifanes matt finish.I'm considering semco. It has an odd color, but I'm told it doesn't build up and peal.
As an experiment, I refinished the wood decking over my coaming deck with two coats of epoxy followed by two coats of epifanes. Two coats of epifanes wasn't enough. I had to add a couple of more coats. I'm not sure the epoxy treatment did what was expected. It looks nice however. I'll probably use that treatment for small areas such as the cockpit table and hatch boards.

ParticipantSeveral months ago I posted a problem I was having relating to heating domestic hot water with the engine. My engine would get hot but I could only get sufficient domestic hot water if the engine had been running for a long time.
I have a 10 year old Westerbeke 63C which I don't think too many other Pearson owners have. I eliminated an air lock as the source of my problem. I replaced the existing Raritan 6 gallon water heater with a new Super Stor 6 gallon water heater thinking that there was poor heat transfer inside the waterheater. When I removed and looked inside the old water heater there was a considerable layer of deposits on the exchanger. However, even with the new water heater, there was still inadequate hot water production. I could feel that the hose going to the water heater did not get hot in relation to the engine temperature.
I took my entire engine cooling system apart to confirm that the heat exchanger was allowing flow from the water heater, replaced all the hoses (to eliminate internal collapsing of hoses), cleaned the thermostat housing/replaced the thermostat, and examined the vanes on the engine coolant pump. All systems were normal.
I called Engines 1, the regional Westerbeke folks, and didn't get much help other than to get a couple of local mechanics who they recommended. I called one of the mechanics who didn't have any specific experience with this engine. I described the flow of coolant thru the engine and water heater. The hot water heater is a circuit off the manifold thru the hot water heat and then back to the heat exchanger. He stated that the flow I described was a poor design (too passive) and will be inadequate to provide hot water. He stated that I needed to get my outflow to the water heater back at the coolant pump where it would have more pressure to force it thru the water heater. There was no way to do that. So, I added a small 12v Jabsco circulation pump at the water heater that gets turned on manually when I turn the engine on. I can leave this pump on after the engine is off and continue to suck heat off the engine and into the water heater as long as the engine is hot. This action greatly improved my hot water production.

I'm somewhat frustrated by the lack of hot water when cruising. I find my Yanmar engine doesn't make hot water unless I run the engine under load for at least an hour or two. I could probably idle all day and not get any hot water. I guess they did too good a job with the cooling system. Do any other Yanmar owners have a similar experience?
I've probably resigned myself to cold water. We boil water for dishes. This doesn't help with showers. I've considered doing what I did with my old boat, a pump-up garden sprayer filled with warm water. I almost bought a generator a month or so ago, but I decided that I have no convenient place to put one large enough to heat water. Any ideas?

ParticipantMy vent to the main saloon is 6″
My vents fwd and aft are 4″
Yes it was very tight getting through the bulk head into the V berth.
I have carbon monoxide detectors in the V Berth and aft cabin and have never had a problem with them going off when the AC was in use.
In Virginia, on the southern Chesapeake Bay, the 16,000 btu Mermaid has performed well. On a day where the temp is 98+ it cannot keep the cabin temp in the low 70s… it will however keep the humidity low and even though the cabin temp is upper 70s it still feels great.
I think our size boat probably needs 20,000 btu but or so to keep them really cool.
I think the Mermaid is a good value (I also installed one in our last boat, and ODay 34) and the mfg has given good advice and support when requested.
Our marina electrics couldn't support a larger unit if I wanted to get more AC.Rick

It looks like I will have to bring the cushion outward to make room for this vent. How do John's and Rick's boats deal with this? Is the vent 4″ going forward and 6 ” going to aft cabin.
Also I have the Mermaid unit and it made the CO detector go off in the middle of the night. On the second night it did it again with 3 ports open.
Thanks for the advice

ParticipantMy heat pump installation is similar to Johns. I bought a Mermaid from Defender.
I have a large vent coming out of the locker immediately aft of the hanging locker door for the main cabin, a vent that leads to the head, one that leads forward to the v berth (like John's) and another that leads aft to the Nav station (like John's).

I inherited an A/C similar to the one you've just installed in the handing locker. The PO ran a 3″ vent to the forward cabin, down the lockers behind the starboard settee backs. It exits through a smal vent on the port side of the forward berth. He also ran a vent to the aft cabin (through the locker behind the head sink and outboard of the shower liner to another vent on the navigation desk. The A/C works well for the forward cabin and pulls the temp down to the low to mid 70s on the hottest days. The aft cabin vent doesn't do much. The problem is most likely in the duct work to which the A/C output is connected. When and if I replace the existing A/C I'll try to learn a little bit about ducting and maybe improve the aft cabin situation.
Two problems with this arrangement.
1. The vent hose takes up a lot of space in the lockers behind the settee backs.
2. Condensation can produce a fair amount of moisture in those lockers.Neither problem is very serious. I certainly am glad to have the A/C for the last 6 weeks in New Bern. It has been cool for 3 or 4 days now, but we had a month and a half where the high temp just about never got below the mid 90s.

I just installed a new 16,000 btu a/c unit in the starboard hanging locker in front of the head. The boat only had one outlet installed just above. I was wanting to add more vents, especially to the V berth and wanted to know who has done this, where they put the vents, and any problems to consider. It sure is great to have A/C in the south!
Thanks, Adam

We'd be up for ron day viewing with others ….Rick

By far the best days to attend that show are either the first one or two, or else the last one or two. You'll pay extra to get in on the opening Thursday, the so-called VIP or Trade Day, but it's worth it. The vendors and their displays are fresh and sharp and the attendance is comfortably moderate. What ever you do, don't go on Saturday (unless it's pouring rain). You'll never get through the molasses-thick crowds to see the things you want to see and the vendors are often too overwhelmed to give you more than cursory attention.
