ParticipantHi Adam.
Have an OK from the guy coming down from Mobile in a couple of weeks who can pick up the stove. Please let me know if that’s OK with you and I will send you his contact details.

ParticipantMight have run into a solution. I’m buying a spare New Found Metals port from a guy on another forum. Just so happens he has a plan to drive to FL from…………
Mobile AL!
Now my knowledge of the exact geography of LA (that’s Lower Alabama for the uninitiated) isn’t that precise but I’m pretty sure Gulf Shores isn’t far from Mobile. Bet if I offer this fine gentleman a small incentive, assuming the car he’s bringing down is a Ferrari or some other impractical machine without a trunk or back seat, I could impose upon him to haul the stove.
He’s coming down mid-Jan so Adam, if that works for you I’ll check with him to see if I can motivate him.

ParticipantHi Adam,
With Tor out of the deal I’ll need to check on a couple of things before taking on the whole shipping costs. Leaving tomorrow to see the family so probably can’t get back to you until after Christmas.
Merry Christmas to all.

ParticipantGot the fresh water pump impeller section today and it is a perfect fit for the cast iron core off my W58. So for under $100 I have a ready to install pump with new shaft, seals, bearing and impeller instead of $600-$700 for a new Westerbeke pump. Guess that red paint costs quite a bit.
The best part, I think this is the final confirmation for me that any other parts I might need for the W58 I should be able to get at a very reasonable price from any farm or tractor supply that supports the Perkins 4.154 series 200 engine.

ParticipantHi Roger,
Thanks for the link to Hansen. My concern would be if they are selling Westerbeke branded parts their cost and then ours, is really high. Nothing against Hansen, just the prices from Westerbeke to their dealers. Have you checked pricing from them for some of the common repair items like starters, water pumps (raw and fresh)?
Example, I needed to replace the raw water pump, the old one was beyond rebuilding. I checked several Westerbeke suppliers and all were very expensive. I looked at my old pump and determined it was a standard Sherwood and found it for about half price from a pump supplier.

ParticipantHi Quent.
The part is the whole front end of the water pump all assembled. So just remove the pulley from the front flange of the pump, remove the impeller assembly and bolt the new one in.
This first link is to the guy I bought it from. The second link shows a photo of the back of the assembly showing the impeller. The guy at plowboy even took measurements for me to make sure it not only looked the same but also was the same size.

ParticipantHi Adam,
I’m with Tor on the shipping as well; no hurry at all. Send by slow and cheap, at least as long as it doesn’t inconvenience you in the process. If it is too large for UPS or normal methods let me know and I may be able to help as I have a friend in the trucking business.
You should have my address and phone in the PM I sent but let me know if you have any questions.
And thanks again for passing this along.
Regards

ParticipantHi Adam
I sent you a PM about the stove. Did you get it?

ParticipantHi Tor,
Thanks. Will work with Adam to get the stove to FL. Storing it here is not a problem as long as I don’t put it in the house.
Shed or barn is mine but I have already exceeded my space allocation for storing boat stuff in the attic, garage and spare bedroom. Any more and and the dog house would be an upgrade compared to where I would be sent.

ParticipantHi Tor,
Don’t want to hijack your stove deal but would it be OK with you to get it shipped to me in Gainesville so I can go ahead and grab some of the oven parts. Would of course first save any parts you want for yours. I mainly need the two over control parts, the one attached to the knob on top and the other which could be inside the oven or inside the back of the top, depending on the model.
Understand you need
– the knobs and valves for the burners
– door hinge
– burner grills
– burnersAnything else? Basically I could just pull a couple of the oven parts and save all the rest of the stove for you. I’m still in Gainesville but hope to be launching in Green Cove in a couple of months (which is more like four in boat time).

PS
Thanks Adam for putting this out there. Let me know if there’s anything we could do to return the favor.skipmac
ParticipantHI Tor,
I still have the original Hillerange in my boat as well. The burners and knobs are OK (so far) but I need some parts for the oven. If you don’t need oven parts then how about we split the cost of the shipping to FL and mutually cannibalize the poor thing?
If you are going back to Green Cove I hope to be there to launch in the next couple of months (or three or ……) but I’m just in Gainesville so not that far. If you are delayed getting back and Adam wants to get the stove out of the garage we can ship it here and get together when you’re back.

PS
Adam, do you know if the oven is/was working on the Hillerange?skipmac
ParticipantI moved my 422 (the center cockpit layout of the 424) by truck. Loading was pretty straightforward. Pull the mast, haul the boat with the travel lift and set it down on the trailer, block and brace. Other than that just secure everything below. The bow pulpit was the highest point for me. Been 3 years so not sure exactly but if I recall about 13′.
The hauler I used had a hydraulic trailer with built in jacks so no cradle was needed. Not sure if they all work that way.
I had mine trucked inland for a long tern refit so a slightly different situation but from what you plan but relaunching is just the reverse. Take the trailer to the yard, drive the travel lift over the boat, strap, lift and launch.

ParticipantHi Pete,
Congratulations on launching. Does this mean we won’t see any more articles about refitting a Pearson?
Hope I’m not too far behind you.

ParticipantWell it just happens that I have a W58 block I bought for spare parts for my W58 and also have a spare head gasket.
I’m hoping I won’t need either. Send me a PM and maybe we can work some sort of trade. skipDOTmac@attDOTnet
By the way, I’m even fairly close, Gainesville.
