ParticipantI think that Paul is right on about the vibration transmitted through the new engine bed. However I feel better about the slight increase in vibration when compared to the old pan. It seemed to be an after thought by Pearson. It seems like they had taken a pan from some other boat and cut the bottom out to access the strut bolts. It was sitting on blobs of thickened epoxy. As far as an upgrade to the 85 horsepower I don’t think that it would be needed. My boat moves faster than it ever has and it feels completely different in the way that it responds I haven’t hauled out in over 2 years and I know that the prop and bottom are completely fouled. I actually can steer in reverse now and that is completely different from the old engine. I am at cruising speed now with a fouled bottom and prop at about 1650 rpm. I had never felt the wheel pull when running the throttle up but now I understand what you guys have been talking about. The engine vibration could be helped by softer mounts I think, I talked to some one that used this engine is an old lobster boat and cruised the ICW , he changed the mounts and found that it helped. I am still waiting to see if it will be needed after some more running.

You will find a drop in replacement at a mobile home or RV store. Cheap stuff but not priced that way.

ParticipantMy small pump discharges through a small hose in the hanging locker on the starboard side just above the waterline. There is a vented loop up high in the locker. The big pump I plan to discharge out the transom with a larger hose. The smaller hose means less in the bilge when the water in the line runs back down when the pump shuts off.

I used starboard and made an open sided box with the bottom twice as long as the top. The small pump is mounted on the bottom with the larger pump on the top. I have a water witch float switch for the small pump and I plan to install a float on top for an alarm. I use a line to pull it out of the bilge but I think that I will copy someone else’s design. I think that it was Aaron that used a pvc pipe as a handle. It also gives a support for the wires rising out of the bilge.

ParticipantWhen I repainted and replaced the lens in the bomar hatches they recommended 3m ultraglaze I had a hard time finding it locally but found it on the internet. If you use it be aware that it is crazy sticky. Lots of gloves, paper towels and paint thinner. It is very difficult to tool. I taped of the second and third try and trimmed them with a razor for a better finish.

ParticipantHey that would cut down on eels that jump out of the strainer when you open it up. I might have to get one.

ParticipantLast time I had that problem I opened the strainer and almost wet my pants when the eel came slithering out.

I read the article and would like to know more about the fiberglass plates and how you sealed the deck. Do the screws going through the fiberglass push against the deck and hold the plates off the deck? What type of caulk did you use? I have been thinking of taking on this project and don’t want to have the same situation down the road from deck leaks.

This was my solution. Today I actually raised the anchor and washed down the chain with my new wash down pump. Two years may seem like a long time but I just like messing about I guess.

I thought that being able to disconnect the batteries was a must so you can service the 110 system without the danger of the inverter powering up the system so that’s how I installed mine. Maybe it’s just me being paranoid again.

ParticipantOOPS! somehow I thought that Jack needed a seat in Oriental. It probably would cost more to ship than it’s worth.

I have an Atwood ( I think) helm seat on my poarch in Oriental that a friend gave to me. My big ol’ butt doesn’t fit but I think that it may fit you. I’m planning on making a removable box with a flip up lid for storage at some point. That way I can make it in the big butt size. You’re welcome to the helm seat if you want it. It has the pedistal and fitting for the bottom. My wife would like it off the poarch. I will be down on the weekend of July 11th give me a call if you want it.
