SpectatorLet me rephrase that. That IS what an ABYC trainer told the class at the Seattle Boat Show last year, but they do claim standards on their web site.
I can’t see any of their minimum recommended standards without paying money though so I guess they don’t care so much.-p

SpectatorJust to be clear ABYC is not a standards body. They establish minimum recommendations.
That’s straight out of an ABY C class I took from an ABYC trainer. With that in mind, what specific ABYC recommendation do you say this in conflict with?

SpectatorYou can work through minor issues or emergencies by sticking a coat hanger through the little holes in the Heat Exchanger. But the correct way to do it is to have it boiled at a radiator shop. That’s what we did with mine anyway.

SpectatorI’d be willing to do it on a weeknight. However, I’m not sure I could reach you East Coasties with my rig from the boat. I’ve long been licensed but just now have my first real rig (that’s why I bought the boat right?). A couple of attempts this weekend at using the Pactor and Airmail were unsuccessful but this very much still the PO’s rig, I don’t know my way around it yet.

SpectatorI’d look at attaching a fitting to the backing plate which then attaches to the PVC. You might be able to find a coupler fitting that fits inside your backing plate which you can epoxy together and then use PVC glue to attach the coupling to the PVC pipe.
I’m looking at doing basically the same thing to attach a 3″ Nicro vent to the 1.5″ hose for my composting head. I still haven’t found the right coupler yet.

SpectatorThanks for the tips guys. The weather in Seattle is now more like Boston, so I’ll be waiting a little while to do this, but I feel like its going to go pretty well.
Thanks again, I’ll post pics when I get it going.
