Installed a PSS unit when I was hauled for a bottom peal and seal. This was 5 years ago. No problems and dry as a bone. This was the newer “spring” model.

Grand Torito. Wasn’t that a Ford product?

I’ve owned a 34′ sloop for 20 years before buying the 424 ketch. I find it easier to sail because of the smaller main. There are more sail options with a ketch.

The forward hatch has worked well for our purposes. With guests aboard, they don’t have to go through the aft cabin when they have to go top side or leave the boat. Very convenient!

The boat has been in challenging conditions around these islands and always performs well.

Tor: No insolence intended. They do look like a walker. I was part of the group that purchased them 5 (already?) years ago. They’ve been the last on my rehab list to install. Pulling out the cabin ceiling just didn’t work as my UH student son lives aboard and the admiral is tired of projects when we visit. As remote as we are out here, all of our sailing has been inter island. Weather windows are easy to find, so no challenging treks to the main. When the boy graduates, we are planning our escape to the S. Pacific. The boat will be ready!

By the way, thanks for all your guidance on modifying the anchor locker. I’m really pleased with the new set up.

A PO replaced our teak handrails and removed the eyebrow several years ago Never experienced any leaks from these areas. Now all I have left to do is get the momentum to install the granny bars around the mainmast.

My boat (#135) had an ice box with no previously installed fridge unit. I put in a SeaFrost unit 4 years ago, when we purchased her. Easy installation and it has been running steadily (and quietly) here in the tropics with no problems for all 4 years. Even here on O’ahu, it only draws around 5 amps when powering up and only a couple at night.

Tor: How about a pic of that “anchor chain pokey rod”?

Just “redid” the anchoring setup on my 424 ketch. I cut out the floor of the existing anchor locker and sealed the deck, similar to Tor. I installed a Maxwell windless that will haul my big Manson 60 on 300′ of 3/8 as my primary. My secondary is a 45 CQR on 100 feet of chain with 200 feet of 12 strand. I keep the CQR on the bow and stow the chain/rope rode in the aft lazaretto in case of a tsunami or other big event. The water gets deep here quickly!

In John’s picture, I noticed that his mast doesn’t appear to be painted. Mine are (#135). I wonder if Pearson changed their approach somewhere during production. I plan to pull my sticks for refinishing later this year. Does someone have a good recommendation for a specific paint they used?

Just go a little further west to see our ketch and there’s your excuse to visit Hawai’i.
