    Hi Lee,

There are as many opinions on this subject as there are boats, almost. I
use one of the West Marine heavy duty pumps (red body) 2000 GPH as the main
pump, and a Rule 2000 as the upper pump. Both of them have the Johnson
contact switches which have no moving parts and won’t start the pump if the
bilge is filled with oil or fuel.

Never combine pump discharges. It won’t end well if you need both pumps
for some reason (most likely a big hole in the boat). You can, as is
recommended, put your discharges out the transom. Or, as Tor has done,
‘Tee’ into the deck drain hoses high up near the deck. I’m thinking of
doing this but am also considering changing the drains to go directly out
the hull and removing 4 through hulls with their attendant maintenance and
    chance for leaks.

Finally, I’ve made ‘L’ shaped platforms out of 1/2″ Starboard to mount the
pump and switch. One has the pump sitting as low as possible (1/2″) and
the other is higher up – a foot or so. Both have a line attached so I can
retrieve either pump for service easily.

Feel free to use any or all ideas presented.

Any sugestions for mounting a manual bilge pump below the cabin sole? Do
you plumb it in series the the cockpit mounted one?

Hood: 28-1/2 flange to flange edge, 34-1/2 forward flange edge to aft end.
Hatch: 25-1/2 wide, like 33 long (hard to tell without removing hood)

    Hope that’s good enough.

Fits a w54 or w58. Do you have a line in those engines or a research path

As an aside, the same cylinder head also may fit a W54. After an extensive

sold by Westerbeke as a 63C engine. Currently the head is used as a Kia

    Hi Tor,

There are a number of programs that do that but not so many that will
recursively follow links. You just tell it what files to include either
through a separate file or some other way. This one I just told it to use
the index.html and it went and found all the files and pictures. Why the
links don’t work I don’t know but I wanted you to get this sooner rather
than later. Also, I use Ubuntu Linux as my operating system so I don’t
have to worry about the viruses and crap Windows and to some extent Apple
OS X are subject to. But that’s not really important, is it?

I hope you like the program and it works for you.

    Hi Tor,

You’re welcome – I had to research, download, install and figure out a
program that would do that with an HTML linked document. I’m sure there’s
a way to make all the links work, but my time this morning was limited.

I’m glad it worked, sort of, for you, but I think you won’t refer to it too

Finally, here’s the link to a .zip file for the HTML version of the
manual. Somewhere in the OpenCPN program directory is a manuals
directory. Unzipping this there should give you a complete set of manuals
    as you use the program.

I’ll keep the file up for a while as I mentioned for the .pdf file.

No, actually, the reason it doesn’t read 7zip files is because the people
who wrote .zip archive software won’t read competitor’s 7zip archive. That
    simple.

I’ve made it into a .pdf, but it’s 16 Mb and I’ll have to get it to you
through Google Docs or something because I don’t want to send 16mb files to
everyone in the list. Or, I’ll use a site like ‘sharethis’ or something.

If you’ve already installed it, the help files will be installed. This
    document looks just like them.

Boy, these guys really are lazy if they couldn’t be bothered to make a
simple PDF manual. One wonders that they managed to create the program at
all. Oh, well, I guess we get what we pay for. If it’s half as good as you
guys say it is I’ll be thrilled. I have already determined that it can read
my old chart collection, which is why I’m pursuing it. These are charts I
used with Capn Voyager v6, which the v8 does not recognize. (More lazy
    programmers!)

I suspect the reason my Windows won’t open a 7z file and yours will is
because my dedicated little nav laptop, an old Toughbook I’ve had for
    years,
runs on XP. Perhaps my main (new) machine, using Windows 7, could open

Looking forward to your re-zipped manual.

Yes, leave the old pump in place, bypass it and use an electric pump
