ParticipantWe have a single cylinder Kubota DC genset that is finally working on Clairebuoyant. It was sold by Jack Rabbit Marine, but was clearly marinized by Phasor. There is a shelf on top of the heat exchanger that supports a small pulley driven Johnson pump of maybe 2-3 gpm. Phasor could probably source the shelf, pump, and two pulleys. The drive pulley fits inboard of the alternator drive pulleys.
I think there is some confusion with the larger multiple cylinder Kubotas which mount a Jabsco or Oberdorfer on the front of the engine. The small one cylinder horizontal will not fit this pump, but I’ve seen them at Boatshow with a special pulley mounted on the hand crank shaft that belt drives a pump..

Another thing about tides that is a bit of a problem that we experienced in Atlantic Cityand Wrightsville Beach and elsewhere is anchoring if the tide and wind oppose each other. Usually, tide prevails, but if the wind is strong, it is not unlikely that the boat will lie heading into wind, but the rode pulling aft and the anchor behind the boat due to tide.
This creates a significat risk that you can foul the prop with the anchor rode. My only advice is to be very, very careful in this situation. Perhaps some of the more experienced sailors on the forum have some advice.

ParticipantHi Tor-
Problem was not deploying both anchors, it was with deploying one with the other still on the roller. We ended up lashing one to the bow pulpit to get it out of the way, then later removing it from the bow area. We found that anchoring opportunities requiring multiple anchors were rare.

ParticipantPatrick-
We have the same dual roller factory setup. Went south last Fall with two anchors on the rollers, a 55 Delta and a similar Manson. We took off the Delta because we couldn’t launch the Manson without dropping the Delta first. Also, with one anchor deployed, chafe against the other anchor was a problem. I think there is wisdom in having one roller.

ParticipantClairebuoyant is staying home this winter. We do have a nice set of charts and cruising guides from last year, everything West Marine recommends. From Chesapeake Bay to Florida, then over to the Bahamas (Explorer charts) complete with Claire’s annotations about the thin spots on the ICW from last year’s trip and places to anchor. If anyone is interested, I’ll get her to make a list of the stuff.

The 10″ alumium cleats are by Schaeffer, availble at West Marine at an obsene price. Maybe the smaller ones are Schaeffer too.

Can you figure out a way (preferably cheap) to read oil pressure and coolant temperature on my 1981 Westerbeke 58, and show it on a Raymarine C-80?

ParticipantAnd this is why Claire is always telling me not to recommend anyone.

ParticipantHi John-
I’ve heard the Foley stories, too. Never had any dealings with them, so I really don’t have an opinion. Their website is pretty useful.
Most of the engine guys I deal with in Annapolis and on the Web are helpful and professional, but are bad mouthed by someone unhappy with them. I guess some of it goes with the territory.
Maybe my expectations are too low. In prior life, had to deal with lawyers and politicians.

ParticipantHi John-
Thanks. Cut and paste failure. I was looking at #10.

ParticipantHi Pete-
No idea on the oil pan gasket. However, I did get a Mazda 4-154 gasket set off Ebay and nothing fit the W-58. The W-58 oil pan gasket is not obscenely expensive.
The rear bearing seal is the same problematic design as the W-50 (4-108) and they use the same W part. Foley claims to have a better seal but for a lot of money. Has anyone tried it?

ParticipantI’ve seen new injectors on Ebay. Apparently the W-58 injectors also fit some other Westerbekes, including the W-100.
