    Pat-
Please ask Don for similar price quote on a RV-20, the unit in most/all P-424s. Also, do they repair or replace gearboxes that rust and leak.
    Thanks,

Good thinking. Any water that leaks in the bottom will run out the top.

There are two different 424 layouts. Ours has galley on port side and head with shower to stb.

Try Southeastern power.com both Phasor and Kubota. 954-979-4349.
However they don’t take credit cards, so they hooked me up with Carlos at powerresolutions.com their retail dealer. Same prices and prob. drop shipped. 305-512-1018 http://www.powerresolutions.com.
Google kubota engines and look at their distributer list

Our similar, temporarily defunct DC genset uses same Kubota EA 300. Phasor in FL is also Kubota distributor and a good source for Kubota engine parts which incidently are much cheaper than Westerbeke parts.

    So there it is:
One unbroken line from locker to each appliance. One solinoid valve in the locker.
If you want two cutoff switches, fine. We have two, one on panel, the other by the stove. Wire them in series so both have to be on.

we replaces ours on Clairebuoyant hull # 132.
    A couple reasons:
Ther is a convergence at aft outboard corner of qtr berth where both copper propane lne, wires go thru bulkhead and the leaky bolts from the lifeline base are in proximity.
We added an inspection port behind the stove which gave access to this part of the line.
There was a second solinoid valve just forward of the stove in the storage locker, meaning there was an illegal break in the propane line.
The hose, premade on various lenghts is relatively cheap.
Propane can explode and kill you. IMHO, on an old boat, replace everything propane related. You already bought the stove, the most expensive part.
Also check the lower vent line from the propane locker to the transom, esp under the shelf. Some corrode thru and vent inside boat.

On Clairebuoyant, we just bought more teak and holly veneer plywood and glued down a new sole on top of the old one.

Before we destroy the retail value of 424s right here in this string, perhaps it should be pointed out that the low prices on some of these aging boats are just the down payment.
We bought Clairebuoyant at auction some years ago at a price below any mentioned so far, but dispite our best efforts, she has tripled that in tribute, and there is much left to be done.
Incidently, I’ve grown to like the Canadians as a result of cruising down here to the Bahamas. If it floats, they’ll sail it here, and they don’t look down on you if your boat doesn’t look like it just arrived at the Boat Show, like the two guys docked near us who just had to wash the salt off their gelcoat with 20 cent a gallon RO water.

Wow! Part of the joy of a P-424 is living long enough to sail it.

We bought a self tacking jib from National Sail Supply a few months back. They advertise in Cruising World, etc..They are a one man shop in Florida dealing in Rolly Tasker sails(Thailand) and delivered in about three weeks. Very nice sail at a very good price. Of course, they don’t come out and measure, but stock dimensions are not always accurate, and NSS talked me through the measuring process.
Everyone uses the same computer design and cutters, probably the same Asian sail factories. I’ve been wearing made in China clothes for years; can’t see paying a big name loft just to send the e-mail to China.

We probably had all original Perko seacocks. We cut them all out using a Moto tool and fiberglass cutting wheels. Perko wanted the price of new Jabscos for just the plastic inside parts. I say replace them all, and the hoses. We also upsized the cockpit drain seacocks to 2″.
Life is short, and the Gulfstream is too wide to swim.

All the autopilots I’ve seen that were fitted to cable steered boats were either mechanical or were hydralic ram designed to operate independently of the cable system. Good ones have an independent tiller, the others bolt directly to the quadrant. If you have a pump without a solinoid valve to disengage the autopilot, then chances are it was intended to be part of a hydralic steering system. We chartered a big Morgan years ago with a hydralic steering, and it was terrible, John is right.
For anyone contemplating a Nexus A/P, Defender has several hydralic ram drives in their clearance stuff for $500, a steal.

Or maybe 3/8 inch brass hose to pipe adaptor spike, with a 3/8 pipe cap. Home Depot or any hardware store can match up to it.
    John-
Are you still near Marsh Harbor or in the Abacos? I hear that it’s blowing pretty good over there. We may come across Thursday.
