Participanthi Bob-
Sorry to hear about your problem! I will follow this with interest as I am
always wondering when I should replace my old Cupro Nickel heat exchangers
(now about 15 y ears old). I know if you see oil coming out the exhaust
it’s the oil cooler that’s shot, so I would think that if you see green it’s
your heat exchanger.standing by for your results–good luck!

Participantthanks guys– I will check the wiring in the harness. I have noticed
recently that when I turned the start key the starter did not energize
immediately, rather it was one or two intermittent attempts before it really
started to crank over. Maybe there is a short in the wiring. I imagine the
wires to check would be those from the key switch, so I’ll ck those first.Rodd Leeds

I too use ss seizing wire . then a nice robust rubber spreader tip cover
along with fresh tape and this seems to work well. Never had a problem with
the tip sliding down.Rodd

My hatches open in either direction, you have the option on each hatch. I
keep the Vberth hatch opening fwd, and the two salon hatches are set up
where one opens fwd and one opens aft. Obviously having a hatch open
rearward towards the aft end of the boat will promote good flow thru
ventilation. As for head hatches, I always recommend they open aft to draw odors out of
the head.My hatches are all Bomar.

Participantoriginal with W58 for me was 18X11. I had it repitched to 18X13. Test is
to use an accurate tach and run the boat up to rated RPM. You should top out
at the rated RPM (or pretty close)at full throttle. Our tachs are notorious
for being way off, so be sure to adjust your tach first with a photo tach or
something similar before making your test run. Then you increase or decrease pitch as needed to either increase RPM or
decrease RPM at full throttle– at least that’s the theory!Rodd Leeds

ParticipantI have a 112 pound 25hp two stroke mounted on the pushpit. It has been on
for 15 years now with no problems. I placed the teak mount at the cross
between where the rais and welded vertical stachion meet. 3 u-bolts hold
the teak mount in place. I use a forspar rig to lower the engine onto the
rib (12 ft Caribe).Rodd Leeds

Try calling Jon Josephson , a longtime distributor of theirs, at
360-695-3470. Not sure if the number is still good, but he helped me out
about 3 years ago.Good Luck!

I have done the engine lift per Pete’s recommendation in order to replace my
engine mounts. Using a 4X4 with a come along should get the job done.Did you check the obvious, ie, tighten all bolts on the oil pan as best you
could? This might slow the leak enough to enable you to wait till you get
to where you want to have it fixed if you choose not to lift the engine
yourself.Good luck–

ParticipantThanks John– I like your alluding to summering in Palm Beach! My summering
will be in my home waters of New England, but for that one week I’d love to
get out on the water before the season starts back north!I appreciate your offer, but in my short time I won’t be able to get up to
Jacksonville. It’s been a lot of years since I was at NASJAX!Have a great winter!
