ParticipantI used that a few times this winter when the waves and the wind were not lined up. I used a 2nd snubber lead back to the winch. Just crank it in until the bow turns. Just need to put the line down pretty far down the anchor chain to get a good angle.

ParticipantI just returned to Norfolk after a 6 day sail from Nassau. When I was in Nassau I added the KISS Ground Plane Antenna to my tuner. I am simply amazed at how much better my rig worked on the way up. On the 5 and 8 mghz bands for SailMail, I can see at least a doubling of my power ou,t measured with an SWR. I was able to connected faster and at higher rates than I have been able to all winter.

ParticipantInfo is the same, just longer to get it.
Remember that WiFi is line of sight. I remember at my home Marina, in the spring we had great speed, as summer progressed the speed kept dropping. We discovered that a tree that was in the way needed to be trimmed. After a little pruning the speed picked up to what it was in the spring before the leaves blossomed. Wifi does not go through leaves…..
Speed it very depentant on the number of connections the router has at the time. Week days when the marina was empty was great. As the weekends came and more people showed up…. it dropped….

ParticipantHere’s why I support Bob Stewart from IslandTime PC. I don’t know what kind of service Tor got from him having his unit shipped to Grenada, Tor will have to answer that.
When I was in Annapolis last Oct heading offshore, the Wifi suddenly died. I called Bob to find out what to do. He was surprised because he had never had one that failed. After an hour on the phone, he said he would over night me a new one and asked that I return the old unit when I had a chance. He didn’t wait for a return to check it out he just sent a new one and over night. I got it the next day (shipped to the Annapolis port captain). just like he said.
I hope the place you buy it from understands boats and cruisers and gives you service like that and that the few dollars you save is worth it. When you start cruising away from your home waters and getting anything done is a chore, with no car and unfamiliar cities, having someone who understands your plight….. you’ll appreciate people like Bob.
Like I said, I have no connection to IslandTime PC, just paying it forward.

ParticipantYou can probably get it for a little less by purchasing it all someplace else. By the time you add it all up though… not by much. The bridge, POE, antenna, the brackets, cables etc. Make sure you have all the specs though and that the antenna matches the bridge that you buy. The one I have is listed as 800 to 1000 mV.
I have no connection to IslandTimePC just a happy consumer.

ParticipantTor, got it right when he told you about my WiFi set up from IslandTimne PC. The price is reasonable and I can generally get Wifi form 2- 3 miles away.
This winter I was in Tobago Cay and was getting WiFi from Union Island 3.5 miles away. Of course if the signal is WEPed… then it’s all for naught….
YMMV

ParticipantYou know, if you suspect the thermostat you can test it by putting it in a pan of water water and heating it on the stove and observe at what temp it opens. Then cooling it and see if it closes again.

ParticipantYou should replace the spring loaded seal while your in there, in which case you will need the gasket for it too. A bearing store may not carry the graphite bearing on the cover end.

ParticipantMine is the R30G. I just bought a major rebuild kit for it from PumpAgents.com. the cost of the kit was 124.00 and 64.00 a new shaft. This seemed to the cheapest rice I could find.

ParticipantBecause no where is the cabin top flat here is what I did. The center line appeared to have the least amount of curve and it would be an even amount on each side, I put the bolts in from the bottom (inside) so that they stick up. I added 2 or 3 nuts on each bolt. When I put the cradle down on the 4 bolts (studs) it was nice and level.
