ParticipantI’ve had one of those for about 2 years, I got the one with the built in DVD. It works great. Of course I paid a lot more back then.

ParticipantHi Pat:
My 424 “MOJO” is in Oriental, The boat was formerly “ICON”. I bought it in St Simons,Ga. I sold four 424s from 2008 to 2010.I was the broker for “Mikey Likes It”. I sold it to past member Mike Bogie and then sold it for Mike to a buyer from Pa. I don’t know what the name was changed to. I run the brokerage at Deaton Yachts, we currently have the 424 HiFlyte in the yard (not for sale) being worked on. There was a 424 docked at the former Sheraton marina in New Bern, I don’t know if it’s still there. I’m out of town for 5 days or I would be glad to get you onboard Mojo, maybe next time.

ParticipantHi Guys – thanks for the responses. Tor that Bimini looks great. I’m definately doing away with some straps in favor of turnbuckles. Mine looks like a spider web aft. I have to agree I think the performance loss would be very minimal. Again thanks/ Jack

ParticipantI had the same rot around my mast and did some extensive repairs last year, including having a new mast shoe fabricated. When I dropped the overhead panels down the plywood literally disintegrated into a 5 gallon bucket. What a gooey nasty mess. I ended up actually doing away with the original egg colored overhead vinyl panels. I found some 4X8 sheets of a white composite paneling at Lowes. It was fairly inexpensive, The description says it’s water resistant…time will tell. It gave the main salon a great Hereshoff look and really brightened things up. I even insulated the complete overhead in the main salon. Rebedded all the hatches and hand rails, hopefully now no running water down the bulkheads!

ParticipantI’ve had great luck over the years removing painted names with oven cleaner. Just don’t leave it on too long. That gets most of the lettering and I’ve never had it damage gel. I then use the “red abrasive” compound to get any remaining paint, finish up with white polishing compound and then wax. Works for me. Theres always a slight shadow left but usually goes away with 2 or 3 months of sunshine on it.

ParticipantI just went through this same problem last weekend. My boat had been on the hard for about 4 months. It has always had water pressure problems just like you described. The pressure starts our great then after 2 or 3 minutes it’s down 75%. I pulled the old Shure pump off. It was manufactured in 1995 and it was 3 gpm. I went with another Shure with an “upted” pressure of 4 gpm. Still had the same problem! I checked every inch of pipeline for leaks, took my air tank and blew (low pressure) through every line. Uncapped every tank in case they were not venting but still had the same problem. The only thing left was the hot water heater that’s mounted in the port cockpit locker. I didn’t see any obvious leaks and was about to close the locker lid when I saw a tiny trickle of water running down the bulkhead way back behind the heater. The PO had installed an old GE water filter system inline and the “O” ring in the cap had a miniscule tear. Spraying out water, not major but just enough! Just enough that I guess it was sucking air into the system. I was able to match up the “O” ring at the local NAPA. Re installed it and the system is absolutely great! I’m back to half my ration on rum and facing the next obstacle. Good luck with it.

ParticipantI took all my exterior teak all the way to bare about 18 months ago. I used three coats of Cetol color and three coats of Cetol clear. I thought it would have lasted a little longer but I have several patches that I’m going to have to re-do. If I ever get that inspired again I may try just varnish.

ParticipantPat – your timing could not have been better, I rec’d my ports (5X12) from New Found Metals yesterday. I’m replacing the long ones in the main salon with fixed Bomon (not Bomar) aluminum ports. I’ll let everyone know how this works out. Best/ Jack
