I have a stack pack on mine that the PO put on. I also put the zipper on a line attached to both ends of the boom with a 2 small blocks. it works like the old time clothes lines. I can stand at one end and pull the zipper all the way back or forward.s

Mine are glassed into the hull in the hanging locker in the v-berth. Looks
like they took vinyl sticky numbers and then glassed over them. Quick and
    easy.

I spent $4300 for my new rigging not including the new forestay, which I
don’t have yet, because we just measured it today. I’ll share my full
invoice when I have the final total. This was for swaged fittings all
around with some sta-loks and isolators for my SSB. I also expect to have
one staylock in my forestay as well so I can thread the bare wire through
    the foil.

I’ll share my full invoice when I have the final total and you can see the
    full parts list.

I am having Port Townsend Rigging do all of my new wire. I’ll let you know
the exact total within the week. If you like there price they may be
willing to make you a copy.
There estimate was at least 30% cheaper than the yard and they were WAY
    more helpful.

I’ll send all the info when I get the bill.

Although I am repowering with a Beta Marine engine, I am scanning

several foot high stack of binders.

Anybody interested in a DVD of all the manuals? I can add any
manuals to the library you might want to send me. Someone suggest a
fair price for the full library DVD.

I think the only solutions are to put in a new stringer under the floor or
to put in a new vetrical support beam in that area and glass it in. I’m not
sure if either of those would then create a preassure point on the hull or
    not.

I failed to mention i have a new shaft with keys, nuts for the prop
and a new coupling from Walter Machine. All the shaft work, including
fitting the coupling to the shaft, was done by The Prop Shop in
    Mukilteo, WA.

Thanks for the tips, I’ll gap it when we’re back in the water. I only
have to go about 3 docks from the haul out to my slip, so no high
    speed travel.

    Thanks!

Patrick, you can’t align it while it is out of the water. The boat

sit in the water for at least 24 hours. Snug it up and don’t run it
    hard
    until you get it aligned.

2 hours trying not to damage a piece of rusted metal that won’t
    release from
    the shaft
Bead blasting and painting, another hour plus materials
Machining/mating the old coupling to the new shaft 40 bucks
Finding out from the machinist that it isn’t usable… priceless

It seems about every other customer insists on going this route. I
    suggest
that I let the techs cut the shaft (it’s being replaced anyway),
    toss the
coupling and for about $100 bucks you get a brand new coupling
    provided by
the machinist that is fit to the shaft and machine faced.

Proper alignment of the V-drive is essential for vibration free
    operation.
Alignment to the engine is pretty forgiving, but the shaft must be
    true to
the coupling. If you didn’t muck with the V-drive when replacing
    the shaft
there is every reason to assume that it is still aligned. In theory
    you
should be able to reinstall the new shaft and be good to go with no
alignment. You’ll know if you are out of alignment because the boat
    will
vibrate at cruising speed. It is normal for some vibration in the
    cabin sole
next to the engine, but you should not hear cabinet doors rattle
    nor should
you feel it in the seat of your pants when sitting in the cockpit.

A common problem that may be encountered with alignment is a bent
    flange on
the coupling. This can happen if the mechanic gets aggressive with
    tools
when separating the coupling from the shaft or removing the shaft
    from the
coupling. As long as you are pulling the shaft I suggest having the
    coupling
checked. If the coupling is bent, the flange on the V-drive may
    also be
bent. In this case you are basically screwed. It is possible to
    shim a bent
flange, but its non-trivial. Instructions for checking alignment are
published in the Walter V-drive manual.

    Rich

You definitely need to post some pictures!

I’ve notice a lot (most?) of the 2×4 stands that are glassed to the hull
and through bolted to the cross beams are missing either the bolt
completely or the nut from the bolt! Getting all this back in is on my
    list.

    Funny thing… Nigel Calder’s books:
Cruising Handbook – uses Cutless Bearing
BoatOwner’s Mechanical and Electrical Manual – uses cutlass

The crusing handbook also mentions the set screws should be set into
dimples, but does explain how the dimples should be created. Thanks Don!

In the case of the attached photo, I looks as if the previous installer drilled the set-screw holes before inserting the screws. He would have used a bit smaller than the screw hole. I don’t see why he would have done this. You’d risk damaging the threads for no purpose.

    Hello Everybody,

On the attachment below is a picture of the burgee that the Flagchick sent me. When you blow it up you can see that it is stitched and it looks like the solid body of the P is a piece of fabric sewn on. I don’t know if the 424 would be backwards or not. You would have to ask her that. I’m just going to order the original stock one that she has. Unless there better alternatives.
