    Hi Tor,
I don’t have any lenses for you but I used to take the hazing of the plastic lenses of my previous boat by applying Brasso brass to them. Just rub it on, let it haze and wipe it off. It will last for about three months.
    Good luck

    Hi Ryan,
I’m on my boat and I just measured the binnacle guard.
    The measurements are;
    1″ thick tubing
    8 3/8″ between tubes
    9 1/2″ tube cantering
    I have a 1981 ketch.
    I hope that this helps.

I bypassed mine a couple of months ago and just did a motoring passage from Norman's Cay to Lake Worth FL.  28 hours of the trip was in very light winds and the v drive temp was 140* and no problems.

We used short combination wrenches and got it out in two hours.  Five hours to reinstall.  We hired a very good mechanic in Dominica, W.I.  He only had one hand, he was amazing.  This was about 1 1/2 weeks ago.  We are now in St. Martin.  So far so good.  We bypassed the water cooling jacket and temp seems good.  We have about 13 hours on engine since then.

    Hello all,

Every time that I see similar type of boats like the 424's, I check out the swim ladders.  I receinty seen a boat in Martinique that a very similar transom to ours.  He had a fibreglass form made to replicate the stern with cut outs for the ladder steps.  It was hinged to swing down and was secured in place with cables and had a folding swim ladder on it.  When it was in the up position it had the boat name on it.  I didn't get a chance to get any pictures.  This is the best that I have seen so far for a swim platform.  For boarding our boat, we use a step hungnat the gates on either side.

    Hi Everyone,

I replaced the six forward ports on Xanadu with NFM ports.  I ordered the tinted ones, about $20 more but it helps keep heat down and a measure of privacy.  The install went well and I didn't use their template. Just use lots of chalking.  The NFM ports tend to rust a bit under the rubber seal for the screen.  Getting the teak trim for inside is a good idea as well so that the outside lip doesn't stick out too far.
For the four aft ports, I had taken the plastic lenses out and replaced them with tempered auto glass, tinted of course.  This was an easy, not too expensive replacement.

Just jumping in on this conversation, I have the Pro furl and one of
the good points is that it’s an open drum. If you have a snarl or
jam, it’s easier to clear it.

That sounds like good advice, Bob, and it may make my old Harken furler
easier to operate. I’m still concerned about its age, which is
uncertain. The PO may or may not have told me it was 15 years old when I
bought the boat at the end of 2006, which puts it over 20 now. If I only
sailed locally, I suppose I could keep using it until something breaks.
But I go offshore and hang out in places where there is no indiginous
word for “roller furler.” This replacement is more along the lines of
    preventative maintenance. Am I crazy?

    Hello everyone,

The problems that I’m having are on the DC side of things. When running
the engine all day, the house bank only gets up toabout 13.3 V, Then when
I sut it down it drops to 12.9 and lower quite fast, in an hour or two.
This happens when there is basicaly nothing on. The same thing happens
after being hooked up to shore-side power or a generator.
The starter battery is no problem @ 14.5 V.
I had both alternators rebuilt in May, the house bank is charged by a
Balmar 100 amp. and the start battery is charged by a 40 amp boshe. I put
a new voltage regulator in for the Balmar in August. The start battery was
new in April, the windlas/bow thruster battery new in June and the house
    bank new in August.
In May I had a guy do some work on the boat and one of the thinggs he put
in was a BEP Marine DC/AC meter and it tells you the charging rate as well
the discharging rate and it shows something is drawing a lot of amps, and
this is with everything shut off.
I don’t know where or how to look for the problem.

Bill I will give you a call tomorrow morning. I’m in Jackson’s Creek right
    in front of the marina.

Glad to see you’re making your way south! I wish I was there…

Does anyone know of a good electrical guy in the Deltaville / Norfolk

that is reasonable. Or anywhere south of there, we are flexible as we

    The problems that I’m having are;
1/ white smoke like steam coming out the exhaust
2/ the hoses coming from the transmission cooler to the raw water pump
    are collapsing
3/ I’m loosing coolant from the heat exchanger

I’ve had different people tell me an assortment of different things that
could be the problem. I think that that transmission cooler is clogged.
It’s much like the tube in the heat exchanger, only smaller. You can only
access about 25% of the tubes. I’ve tried flushing it with Salt-away and
it helped a bit. I think that it needs to be soaked in something
stronger. Can the transmission cooler be bi-passed without any ill
    effects?

Bob, I’m in Marion MA today and will be leaving tomorrow, weather
permitting, and most likely head for Pt. Judith and then west again after
that. This whole area is new to me, but I don’t like to get too far off of
the main routes. I could probably be in Stamford by Thursday or Friday.

    Thanks everyone

    Jack,
I don’t know if this will help you or not, I just had the alternators
rebuilt and the belt number that was on the Balmar was “Premium 25-10555”.
I don’t know what the profile of the belt is and my engine is a Perkins.

I ordered my 5 X 12’s two years ago, I installed one last year and started
to install the remaining six two weeks ago. When I originally placed my
order, they only had two in stock, I ordered the tinted ones. They shipped
the remaining four ports to my and it had on the box ” OLD STYLE” and I
didn’t think to much about it. When I went to install them they only had
one bolt hole in the top center of the frame and outer ring. I had to drill
a center hole in the teak trim ring and make a new template. I still have
to call them about this, but they most likely won’t do anything about it
    now.
