Hi All,
Just sharing my new (almost complete) cockpit table. The old table was kind of rotten and I only two weeks to get the new together before we cruised the Hauraki Gulf in New Zealand.
It has the usual flaps for creating more area for food and drinks, however, the difference is that the centre section also holds the GPS and Radar unit.
The original idea was to have a folding top but this did not work out. Having used it for two weeks I found that for longer passages it was best with the panel that holds the instruments withdrawn from the table and locked into place. The table top slides into place and pins the base of the instrument panel.
On short trips between anchorages, the instruments are still clearly visible when inside the table i.e. the panel in its ‘home’ position.
When all is done, the panel slips down and the top slides into place, with the pins securing the panel, and is lockable. The table also houses speakers and a power point.
Cheers
Dennis

seen again.
I cut the hole, and was extremely proud that I was able to secure the
cut-out before it disappeared.Fortunately I had chosen a large hatch, and was able to work behind the
shower with relative ease. During the replacement of the mixer, and as I
was finishing up, my head knocked the side of the hatch and my spectacles
fell into the void behind the shower! Now was the time to find where “never to be found again” actually is.
Dropped a flashlight into the void, only to find that there was no light
beam in the bilges! The reality is that there is a plywood base under the
shower pan that separates the shower base and the bilge. It is within that
space that my glasses lay.Tried a vacuum cleaner, but to no avail – just dust. I was now in a panic
as this mysterious void had gobbled up jigsaw blades, and now my glasses! To cut a long story short, I probed with a piece of hose and eventually
hooked the glasses!Much relief.
The hatch is great, and the new mixer works a treat!

ModeratorDear all,
😀 – I like those cheesy tube fixtures ( aka mid-century modern ) …
If anyone has the lamp shades intact I would gladly take them off your

I replaced my old cheesy cabin light fixtures years ago with brass
cabin lights.
http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1|65136|328876|1116023&id=1883570The original lamps attach at the bottom of the lamp fixture and most
of the nicer replacements hang down. I put a nicely finished teak
plate behind the light to hide the original hole.
(see attached photo) This allowed me to pick an entirely different
type of fixture. A plastic mirror cut to about the same size might
work if you don’t want to make teak plates. The mirror would reflect
the light and improve lighting.I recently replaced the dim incandescent bulb with LEDs and it made a
huge difference below. The lamps are now bright enough to read by.
As I’m sure you know, these use very little power.

Hi All,
This is a second test because I made another change to trace what happens.
If you’ve already replied, no worries, if not, well, still no worries but
you know..I’ve changed a spam filter setting to help us reject emails that have
senders with hexadecimal addresses. So, you can read this and delete it or
read it and respond with something innocuous like, “Got it!” or you can
write a tome of any length. It would be nice to hear from you only to know
the filter won’t horribly mangle your email. Thanks!

I met the owners of a boat that matches that description many years ago at a rendezvous in Edgartown. The owners loved their 424 but wanted a boat with a walk-through transom. Rather than trade their 424 in on a different boat, they had a yard cut the transom open. I don’t recall that they extended the aft section in any way. They made the cockpit a walk-through with a hinged drop-down seat. They also widened the aft bunk, a modification that I’ve considered since then. Their boat at that time was pristine, especially the brightwork.
I think they also removed the mizzen, making her a sloop with a split backstay. The owner put a wooden block in where the mizzen normally sits. He said that without the spar, there was no place to brace his feet. I don’t recall why he removed the mizzen. He said that he kept the spar in case he changed his mind.
They had some very nice canvas work too. There were probably other changes made but I don’t recall. I never asked what they spent for the modifications but $40K would be my guess. This was in 1988 or 1989.
