Trans Atlantic Diesel in White Marsh VA could be a source for a used one. I gave him my old engine and he had a few others I think. But they can be rebuilt. You should try a truck or heavy equipment place, in my experience they won’t be pushing a new engine on you as hard as the boat yard will.

I’m still tying up the final touches of my windlass install and I saw your wiring of the battery. What size wire are you using for you charging circuit? Did you fuse both end of that circuit? I used conduit for part of the run in spots that were hard to support. I have a 100 amp alternator and I plan to use 80 amp maxi fuses at both ends of the boat. I already have these and if they don’t hold the amps I can easily switch them out with a larger breaker but I think that it would be unlikely that there would be that much current flow in that circuit.

I replaced mine when a heel pushed the lens through because the retaining ring had turned to powder. It was scratched badly but just a couple of drops of water made it clear as the day it was made.

The inner ring on my lens fell apart when I removed the plexi. I just replaced it with a piece of lexan the size of the aluminum ring and that has worked just fine.

Looked back over you pictures of your canvas and saw the rubber tip on the cut off rail. Have you experienced any heavy weather with the motor on the bracket since you cut the rail? I would love to do it but I am still worried about the strength.

You mentioned an off set stern rail gate. I know that you have a ketch as do I. I have thought of making a gate to make it easier to get out of the water. Even with the swim platform and a fold down step up higher on the transom the transition from one side of the rail to the other is a bit scary especially with wet feet ( because they always are wet ). I have saved all the photos that you sent and have not noticed the gate. Do you think that the mizzen sheet has a strong enough attachment point with the stern rail cut? Pics would be great if you have the time. We spend a lot of time in the water whenever possible and this is something that I have pondered for a while. Which is most of what I seem to be doing lately.

Always check the connections. Mine had the same symptom that was the result of the main wiring harness plug down by the engine. Cut the wire and put in a butt connector, fixed.

I plan to run a hose back to the cockpit from the wash down. The main reason is for fishing. I have to use the fresh water shower now when a fish decides to bleed all over the cockpit. Right now it’s not a big deal but when I get out there and fresh water is expensive, it seems like pulling a water line to one of the combing boxes will be well worth the trouble. The swim platform does make a great place for a wash down before the kids have a chance to track sand and salt all over the cushions.

I am asking for suggestions for both. Neither of mine are adjustable and I am looking for suggestions. Once again Rich has a great solution for the mizzen. It sounds like that will be easily adjusted from the cockpit.

I had the same problem a few years ago and it was the main wiring harness plug. The energizing wire was about a 8 or 10 gauge. I cut the wire and put a butt connector in and the problem went away.

You could hit the grocery store and check with the trucks out back. You said that free cheap was better. I think you could find a plastic grate either bread or I have even had grapes delivered on a small mesh collapsible plastic box. They are like the bottom of a milk crate only the slats are much closer together With the size of the shower I think (just going by my poor memory) that you could use a broken one and trim it to fit. Maybe one of the delivery drivers or grocery employees can hook you up.

I use dri deck behind the bar to allow the glasses to dry. I use it on the boat in the anchor locker. It seems to help keep the rode a little dryer and that’s good.

I was told by the yard manager to make sure that the corners of any cut out should be round. I eventually want to cut out about a 3′ wide by 1′ high opening 1′ deep to lengthen the berth. Then I can make the bottom to lift out to access the valve. I plan to add to the existing plywood on the sail locker side kinda like a header in a wall.

A bread rack sounds like what you are looking for. It is about the same size as the shower.
