Basic physics question. Does a column of water 4″ in diameter 4′ high exert the same pressure as a 1″ column 4′ high?

I have to think that it would be easier to find and deal with a leak before it is submerged. I hope that my alarm and the deep sump would allow time to stop the flow. But I still am paranoid over the port cockpit drain. If that hose comes off or leaks my big butt would probably get stuck in the sail locker trying to get over the refrigerator compressor and shut off the sea cock. I must cut and access at the foot of the captain’s berth.

I flush the bilge with water and then empty out a shop vac to start with a clean container. Most things in the bottom of the bilge will come up with the vac. Then it’s just culling out what needs to be washed off.

I think that Bill Tice from Charisma told me that he uses a Temper Pedic foam mattress in the aft berth. He said that it is not hot like I thought it might be. I asked the mattress inspector that frequents the bar about the foam and he said that changes in temperature cause dramatic changes in the foam’s softness. Yes he is a mattress inspector for the state. There is an expert in every field hanging out at the bar. I think that Bill said the full size fit with no alterations.

The original assembly on my boat broke where the hose to the shower head attaches. I went to several plumbing houses before one sent me to the RV supply place. When I held up the small plastic union the man behind the counter knew exactly what it was and sold me the replacement. I thought it said marine on it some where when he told me the price. Found my hatch a week ago now I’ve got another project. I will be glad to get rid of the original equipment and gain storage space.

Many of the aftermarket shower heads have a shut-off on them. I have one on my home shower. I practice conservation for the chance that I may someday apply it to the cruising lifestyle.

MAS epoxies has a video on line showing using two coats of epoxy as a sealer and adding one or two coats of varnish as a uv inhibiter. They say scratch it with a scotch brite pad once a year and apply another coat of varnish and it looks great forever. I am trying this method on the step for the windlass. It’s only a few square inches and will be a simple test spot. Bob Bitchin swears by it. All those advertising dollars probably are a good incentive. Aaron could comment on the appearance of the Lost Soul they say that is what is used on all their bright work. Of course all the press he gets in Latts and Atts may sway his tongue but I doubt it. Nice pictures of the puppies and Splotch!

Won’t be at the boat until Thursday. I’ll measure then and bring the drawer
home to try the hole saw and see if I can get that to work. The outside
diameter of the pull is the problem.

The finger hole on the bottom galley drawer. It is about 1/4 inch bigger than the ones that WM stocks. I found some in Thailand but shipping and special order prices are over the top. I have thought of trying to make some with different size hole saws.

While we’re talking about the drawers, the cover from the stove was tossed through the galley. I forgot to secure the oven before going sailing. On the way down the top took the drawer pull teak ring right off the face of the drawer. Now the hole has a rough finish and could cause splinters. The hole is larger than any of the finger holes that I can find. Any help would be appreciated.

    NOT FAIR!
I want to go now instead of dreaming. Kids, business, parents and most of all money, what little there was just evaporated. Hey but you guys have fun in the sun while we freeze our butts off up here.
Bill give a heads up when you come through Oriental. Meet you at the tiki bar.
