Shortly thereafter the light went off, so we’re still clueless. I’ll look
how it’s wired in next time I have the panel down. Too lazy enjoying the
first 80F+ days in Puget sound this year. Lats N Atts party is a good time,
if you like drunken pirates. 😉

It broke off at the control end if the cable in the pedestal. There is a couple inches of metal fitting that attach to the control lever. that piece has flipped back and is wedged after the cable broke. I think it will be fairly easy to pull in through.

The engine side of the cable lacks a proper connection. The cable is sort of tied and clamped very clumsily (but functionally) to the transmission control arm. I assume there is normally an actual fitting there. Anyone happen to know the part for that too?

    Thanks,

The cables are pretty standard stuff. You should be able to match it up to Teleflex product at West Marine. Removing the cable from the Edson pedestal is a little tricky. Check with Edison for instructions, and use plenty of WD-40 or similar on the ss machine screws tapped into the aluminum housing if you need to remove them.
Where did the cable break? If it broke at the threaded end on the transmission, there might be enough left to use.

Syringa has a 2:1 internal as seen here:
    http://www.harken.com/rigtips/Outhaul.php

I’m thinking I could use a 4:1 external cascade with a wire rope on the
first section which would allow me to use the existing wire rope outhaul
slide. I cleaned mine up and lubed the pulley and it seems in good shape
    (and expensive to replace).

I’m going to start piecing this together…. anyone have suggestions on how
much travel I’ll need? I’m thinking 4-6″ seems plenty. Have to bring the
mainsail back down to the boat to get a measure on things.

I believe the starboard forward companion way has screws from underneath as
well. You’ll have to pull the headliner.
The trim can be very difficult to remove.

You should plan on sealing the exposed balsa core in this are as well. On my
boat the trimdeck core was sealed with silicone. It’s dry, but it scares
me. I’l be removing some core and expoxying it closed when I put it back
    together.

If you use a fiddle with a snap shackle on it you could use a webbing loop,
or one of those Ronstan Dyneema Links, or even a big locking carabiner (that
would scratch the stern pulpit pipe) attached around the stern pulpit where
that supportive inverted “V” is located. That would also allow you to sheet
from other places (like the eyepads for the running backs).

The main idea of using the snap shackle is one I copied from s/v Sarah.
