SpectatorI’m 99% sure it’s stuck at 3/4 i’m going to fill up in Port Townsend, WA tomorrow to confirm.
Lying at anchor in Mystery Bay, WA tonight. It’s called mystery bay apparently because you come here to figure out what is up with your boat.
Besides the gauge i just isolated a fresh water leak which zapped one of our tanks. Two other boats in our armada also had issues, one stuck in reverse in a narrow channel and the other is having charge issues. We haven’t even made it somewhere exotic yet.

I think my fuel gauge is busted, or this w58 drinks very little diesel. Is the deck window the best way to check the tank?

SpectatorAnyone know of a cheaper but equally high qualityhigh GPM as the Edson manual pumps?

They are designed so you can stand in the cockpit, steer and pump with one hand (i.e. they have a board to put your foot on and a long handlehoses).-p

SpectatorThe strainer is the big bronze thing under the floorboard hatch by the trashcan where you can see the v-drive.
Follow the hoses to the through hull, its on the starboard side of the boat. This is mine, but I just replaced it, yours will look different and likely be massively corroded if its original, mine looks sexy. 😉

SpectatorThis is right off the Sherwood page
http://www.sherwoodpumpsdistribution.com/en-us/Products/Pumps/Technical+Tips/FAQ2/FAQ2.htm
“Use non-petroleum lubricant to help install the impeller.”
“Do NOT use a petroleum lubricant at any time, as it will swell the impeller.”I was planning to pull it apart again and replace the cover (it was a little warn). I’m not really sure what PTEF is (starbrite claims a copyright on that), I have a question in to Starbrite asking if its petroleum based. If necessary I’ll clean it out when I put on the new plate.
I have a Sherwood R30G-1 on a W58. for those interested in that the cover plate bolts are 10-24 1/2″ and as they fall into the bilge they become invisible. 😉

SpectatorIt is a 3″ Vetus mushroom vent which I purchased at Fisheries Supply

Nature’s Head, it is not an Airhead.-p

SpectatorLinks and pictures.. I love it !
I’ve been eyeing one of these myself, but was always suspect as they looked a little gimmicky, but if you all say they work well I’ll trust you on that, because when things don’t work none of you are shy about letting us know!
We’re eventually going to be putting up a windvane (next year) so our stern ladder will go, plus we think its a bad placement and we don’t like people coming and going over the stern rail. I’m going to go with an amidships ladder andor one of these step thingies. Sounds like both would be a nice setup. Dinghy to port, swim ladder to starboard but I’d setup it so it could be the other way too if desirable.
As always, thanks for the advice and tips!

SpectatorHere’s a not so great shot of my bow, roller is mounted on the bow with no bow pulpit or anchor platform:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/deepplaya/2900060253/in/set-72157607586921284/I use a Delta (came with a Bruce). I’m able to pull the anchor up on the windlass without whacking anything too much.
Here’s a good shot of a P424 for sale in Houston, TX that has an anchor platform. Looks nice but it has not vertical support so I’m not sure I like the design.

SpectatorI’m curious did you get the plates to a high polish before you installed them?
At the Brion Toss Rigging class he said that the most expensive part of making stainless chainplates was the polishing and that the polishing is what helps slow crevice and surface corrosion by eliminating or lessening the amount of surface area. But he made is sound very doable, its just takes time.
