You got a deal! They’re $132 for the aluminum ones that fit 1-1/4″
track now at WM; oh and sales tax is 9.9% in Seattle. (no income tax)

It’s probably time to replace the whole car as it’s fairly corroded,
but I’m not ready to get into that right now.

Good info on the paper, I think its a learning process really and I’m sure we’ll tweak it along the way.
Here’s a link to more pictures than what I put into the post for any who are interested: http://www.flickr.com/photos/deepplaya/tags/systemscompostingtoilet/

Are you talking about putting a hatch into the stern of the boat (or the stern area of the combing) for the generator or just setting it up on the combing itself?

Thanks Tor, you have sent that out before and I’ve even put it into my offline digital library. It was good to read it again though.

I’ve not done this, my hull does not have teak in that area. I have been watching a guy on my dock replace the teak toe rails on his boat and it seems pretty straightforward. He was using wedges and a Fein Multimaster to pry and loosen the old teak from the rail. I think if you followed a similar strategy and cut it back as you went (so you the multimaster can still reach in) you could make it work. In terms of refinishing it seems like you’ll just be doing a lot of sanding and possibly using some harsh chemical strippers if there’s anything like 5200 under that teak.

Anyone have experience doing gel coat work? Is that more difficult than just the glass and epoxy work?

    Seems very doable though.

I didn’t realize I hadn’t gone through those ones. I have added them all to my P424 Modifications page.

Now I’m overwhelmed with ideas which is right where I need to be as I ponder doing this at some point.

I spoke to the guy at Railmakers today (seems like he made about $1500 today off us this week) and he said they holes were drilled to 1/4″. This is also confirmed on the spec in the drawing Tor sent out earlier as well.

I just ordered some for Deep Playa as well. He said he’d have to make them up since some of you bought the last two he had laying around. He gave the same price as for the others.

Do these have the “lower foot rail” or is there a design with more bars than in this photo?

Hull #152 also has no teak on the cockpit combings. Must have been an option.

Oh you know we’re interested in that. Full pics and stories please!

I’m especially interested in what if any modifications were needed to fit in the new components and a ballpark sum for the total experience.
Also, did you do any of the work yourself?

I am very shocked you found something labeled on the boat. 😉
I didn’t know about that, I’ll go looking for it soon though as I’m starting to put my plan together the masts and working on the standing rigging and deck hardware this fallwinter.

I’m curious about your new wiring run through the bilge, did you use any conduit or cable tray?
