I haven’t got to the windless yet, but Lady Leanne has (I believe) the original SL Tiger mounted on a large 8x8x12 (?) teak block forward of the anchor locker. This raises the chain up over the level of the toe rail and gives a clear shot from the rollers on the pulpit. The chain still feed into the moulded anchor door opening. I plan to get into this with some type of pipe feed into the lower locker for chain while leaving the locker itself for a backup chain/rope secondary system. I’ll follow your progress with interest.

Just curious. Where in GA are you? I live half the year on Lake Lanier, north of Atlanta and spend the other half on our 424 ketch in HI. Do you keep your ketch here on the coast?

My problem is in the fresh water side. I had the heat exchanger cleaned, put in a new water pump (needed), added a new thermostat and sender unit. The engine still slowly heats up to 200+ after about 30 minutes. I finally pulled a hose and checked and out oozed some sludge. The raw water side works great. I am wondering if someone might have a recommendation on a good fresh water system cleaner.

I’ll be on Lady Leanne from Thanksgiving through March. Let me know if you plan to stop in Hawai’i. I’d be happy to plug you into slips and the Waikiki Yacht Club and any other resources you may need.

Tor: I assume you meant butylrope caulk. I’ve heard great things about this stuff, but can’t find it. Where did you get it?

Norris: The address is the business office of the marina. They accept packages for us.

Next day air would be teriffic. Please let me know what the costs are and I will quickly reimburse you. Just tell me where to send the check.

Let me know if you and your wife decide to come to HNL. I’d be happy to hook you up and do some sailing. My wife and I found a wonderful little condo on the North Shore (beach) for $100/night. We’re also members of the Waikiki and Hawai’i Yacht Clubs, so there’s lots to do. Be forwarned, I’ll drain you of all of your 424 knowledge!

    Aloha Norris:

You are a prince (or perhaps I should say Ali’i). I can certainly wait for the pump as time loses its meaning after being here for a while. The pump can be shipped to:

    Daniel Kalinowski
    Ke’ehi Marine Center
    24 Sand Island Access Road
    Honolulu, HI 96819

    My cell is 404.405.4562

Please let me know how much to reimburse you and where to send the check.

We’re (my son Roman and I) are planning our first short inter island sail to Molokai’i and Maui this fall, when the trades shift. Our plans include a sail to the Big Island next summer (maybe 2 days under the rags) if you might be interested.

Do you still have the pumps available? Mine just crapped out. Is this for the W58? My boat is a 1980.

Thanks for the info. I always want to get some info before I tear stuff apart (I’ve learned to temper my enthusiasm).

    Aloha Tor:

I just read your blog. If you’re going to Panama, you should visit Bocas del Toro on the Carib side. Lots of islands, funky little towns, safe, cheap. It’s like Venice in that almost all is done by boat.

We chartered a house boat down here (only craft available) and fell in love with it. So we bought some property on Isla Solarte (cheap).

Worth the effort to get there.

There’s empty slips in my marina on Ke’ehi Lagoon. As they say in JoJa, “Y’all come on down”.

They look at the exceptional moon rising over Diamond Head tonight and dream of sailing away (if they’re enlightened).

I guess I’m in good hands here at Ke’ehi Marina. Before thay began to pull the straps, a worker dove the boat to make sure all was OK!

I checked on the 424 that wrecked on Maui last year, as any self respecting Pearson bone picker would. I contacted the harbor people and they said the boat was cut up and buried in the trash landfill. (inaccessable) What a waste.

FYI all: The SS tang broke in half through the eyehole. The weld is still strong.
