Thanks for the links, however, none of them carry an 8″ chock. The originals
look like they were sized for up to 1.5″ line. Both of mine are bent and one
broken, another sign my boat didn’t spend all its time in a quiet anchorage
somewhere.I took a closer look (with my glasses on) and there is a symbol with a “W”,
with a circle around it, on the chock. I tried Whitecap Industries, but they
don’t have large chocks either. I can’t think of another company that starts
with W??, that would makes sense.Paul

Are you grinding of your old non-skid, or is this just for around the anchor
locker area?Paul

Thanks for the ideas. I ended up locating some of those small discs to use
on a die grider, and they do the job.As far as dust goes, I am quickly finding that sealing off the area 100 %
with plastic and duct tape may be the only way to stop getting it
everywhere. It is amazing how fast the dust ends up throughout the boat (
Rich – as I think you mentioed this when you had your V-berth re-inforced.)Paul

I sent them a fax at 5:15 PM and they called me back within the hour with
the tracking number and confirmation of delivery, so they are still in
business.Chuck – I just bit the bullet and ordered a mizzen step for $349. I was
thinking of getting one welded up, but too many other issues I am dealing
with right now ( let’s just say I am now able to sand the inside bottom of
the bilge from outside the boat right now!!)Paul

ParticipantI have been dealing with Rig-Rite via fax over the last couple of weeks and
they responded quickly (or at least charged my credit card pretty quickly
when I ordered a new mast step for the mizzen!!)I just sent them another fax looking for the tracking number, so I will let
you know if they respond.Paul

I agree with John’s comments to look at those boards. I think you will find
the Kyocera 130watt (now 135’s) are pretty popular. However, size has more
to do with the real estate you have to park them on. Where are you thinking
of putting yours, on top of davits or the bimini??Paul

I didn’t realize the pump had mechanical seals. As Peter indicated, a shop
like Applied Industrial should have what you need. They have 3 shops in the
Baltimore area, so one may be close by.http://web.applied.com/site.cfm/seals.cfm?WT.ac=Seals_ORings_Home

You need to be asking for oil seals. The last ones I got for the Johnson
pump on my genset were JM Clipper Oil Seals. Here is the parent company that
sell them on-line. I see the ones I got only cost $1.70 each ( This was for
a small seal 12mm x 24 mm x 7 mm)Just enter in the shaft and bore size in the search engine and you should
find what you want. You will need to know if metric or english units are
being used for you pump.http://www.manvillerubber.com/products_6.php

Whenever I have needed seals for pumps, I just go to the nearest bearing
shop. They can measure uff the old ones or take the measurements off the
pump and for around $10 each, you should be all set.Paul

I case you don’t follow the SSCA DB, here is an on going discussion on Gas
vs Diesel gensets that may be of interest. As allows, it covers opinions on
both sides of the issue.http://64.70.221.24/DiscBoard/viewtopic.php?p=36066#36066

ParticipantLinus, if it is any consolation, we are working in Canada today as well. My
boat came with a 4 Kw Apollo genset. Because of this, the refrigeration
system is a Seafrost 110V (BF-3) system, so I am stuck having to run it
daily. It also has a 12,000 BTU Cruiseair system, so in theory, I could air
condition while sailing. It was a live – aboard Florida boat, so I guess
that explains the setup. If I were starting from scratch, I assume I would have gone the solar / 12v
route for less dollars. However, that would not address your need for
air-conditioning in the summer. I probably also would have purchased a Honda
EU 2000. It sounds like most people are pretty happy with them and they only
cost around $1000. At a 5 year life, that is $200/yr, less than the interest
cost on a full diesel genset. If you are wanting to air condition all night,
they would be the quietest way to go. Note, you can get adapters to run them
from a larger, portable tank, like you would use for an outboard. Of course,
the biggest hassle over a diesel genset could be the handling of the gas,
depending on your circumstances.Going the homemade route could be pretty cost effective. Rich Boren (Pearson
365) also went that way, adding on a water maker at the same time. I think
Alan is also making one. Rich picked up his Kubota diesel for $500 off of
e-bay. Here is a link to a discussion on his systemhttp://64.70.221.24/DiscBoard/viewtopic.php?t=2445&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=third&start=15

ParticipantThere is a 4″ clearance to the bottom of the hull (It’s easy to measure
these things when the boat is on the hard 50 ft from my desk!!)Paul
