I’d say a good one for sailing solo.

Up here, the upper section of the hose much more likely to freeze than the bilge. I like the Grenada solution to winterizing, but the Admiral has other plans.
A lot depends on the type of pump. Positive displacement pumps, like a flexible impeller pump work well against resistance (like a check valve) but centrifical pumps like Rule 2000 would see diminished output.
I’m thinking simple is best. We have one breaker dedicated to just the Rule pump, only wired through float switch. For manual, we lift the float switch with a stick. Offshore, we leave the pump breaker off, checking the bilge regularly. Inshore or at the dock, we leave it on.
    There’s always the bucket…

Really like Tor’s bells and flashers approach to high bilge water. However, up here in the frozen north, trapping water in the bilge pump hose that could freeze with a check valve strikes me as not so good.

We have a Rule 2000. It has no trouble pushing water out the transom thru-hull, however the long hose run drains back into the bilge leaving about an inch of water.
I would suggest that the two systems, electric and manual, be completely independent of each other.

These are similar to Sharp 80 watt panels we bought from Costco in 2007. They are mounted four across over the Bimini.
    Costco price includes shipping.

I am pleased to announce that the space behind Clairebuoyant’s shower is now empty. We have finally used up all the PT and TP we packed for our trip to the Bahamas in 2008.

    Pete-
Looks like a nice TV. J&R refers to it on their website as both an LED and a LCD. Which is right?
    Thanks,

Be careful, Jack. Excess drinking usually ended up with me inside the doghouse!

    Just this true story:
There is a little sign available at many boat stores that states-
“Do not put anything in this marine toilet unless you have eaten it first.”
To which one Captain I know couldn’t resist adding-
“For your convenience, the Captain has provided mint-flavored toilet paper.”
The sign came down when one female guest complained that the paper wasn’t at all minty. We never did figure out if she was bluffing.

    Bob-
Do you have a voltage regulator external to the alternator? If so, some of them delay charging to allow the engine to build up oil pressure, then ranp up to full charge. My Balmar does this. It is a good thing.
